Modern Loft in Christchurch CBD with Private Courtyard

This was an amazing space, in the perfect location. The team was so accommodating and I can't wait to stay again.

Modern and very handy having a washing machine.

Loft very hot, would benefit having small aircon in it as fan did nothing. Better crockery, cups and glasses would be nice.

The property is located in a quiet neighbourhood, it takes 20min walk to CBD. The price is good. Very new build and good deco. Here goes what I didn't like, I'll put it here as there is a character limit. My first impression of this booking was terrible from check-in. The self-check-in policy was fine and the no-room service was acceptable given my short stay. However, the service and communication with the owner throughout the entire experience were terrible. The day before my arrival, the owner had sent me self-check-in information including entrance passcodes and two contact phone numbers. I assumed everything would be fine and informed the owner of my arrival time. However, upon arrival, I discovered there were ten identical units and the self-check-in information didn’t include the unit number. I immediately called the contact number but was greeted by voicemail. I tried another number but received the same result. It was raining that day so I stood in the rain for twenty minutes repeatedly trying both numbers. Finally, I reached the owner but he simply told me the unit number without offering any apology.

The property is a new build but not well-maintained. The shower floor doesn’t drain properly so I have to stop it every two minutes or it overflows. The sewer cover even floats itself. However, this isn’t the main issue. There’s no window in the bedroom so there’s no airflow. I smelled a strong chemical odour when I went to the loft. I think the construction materials’ smell hasn’t dissipated since the loft was built and I hope it’s not toxic. I believe the owner noticed this problem and installed a portable fan in the bedroom but unfortunately it wasn’t very effective. I might have slept better on the living room sofa. Finally, regarding the checkout, I had a late check-out benefit included in my booking so I requested it. However, the owner insisted on a $10 additional charge and asked me to transfer the money to a bank account. I pointed out that the extra charge wasn’t included in my booking but the owner remained firm. Frustrated after two poor days staying there, I told the owner I'll check out on-time but I'll lodge a complaint. Then the owner suddenly changed the narrative and told me there won't be additional charge but late-checkout is unavailable. The whole thing feels like a scam! I’ll never book with this owner again and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
