Varan Mawella Beach Guest House

Für alle, die keinen Wert auf Mamorbäder, Drinks am Swimmingpool und starkes Wlan legen, denen ein sehr einfaches, von Einheimischen geführtes Guesthouse reicht, die gerne von den Gastgebern hervorragend bekocht und bewirtet werden wollen, ist das direkt am Strand gelegene Guesthouse von Shriyani und Dilum genau das Richtige. Hier kann man Eintauchen in das Leben der Fischer und, wenn es dann doch mal Wlan und ein Drink sein soll, dann geht man in die nächst beste Bar am Strand.

This property is located on Mawella beachfront. Mawella beach is absolutely stunning, unspoilt, lined with working fishermen’s boats. The property is very basic don’t expect any luxury. The couple that run the property are very friendly and kind, and Shriyani is a very good cook. It’s like going back to basics, it’s very relaxing and quiet.

The pressure of the water in the bathroom was not very good, and the couples English is very limited, which is a shame, they do have a friend who speaks English for them but I would much prefer speaking directly with them. The property is quite far from any supermarket and shops. You would need to hire a moped, as the tuktuk over charge and can become expensive. It’s not too far to walk, but it can be a bit tiring in the heat. It would be nice to know the prices of all the extras at the guest house too, and a list with all the prices would be helpful.

Very nice stay. The location is amazing if you are looking for peace and beach I.e. in front of the beach so sunrise is unbelievable and you can walk on the beach in the morning or evening it is very confortable. The guests are very friendly and caring. They cook amazingly and from our side we managed to have a romantic dinner at the beach in the evening, everything was so cute.

Beautiful location on the beach, friendly hosts and delicious home cooked food. Rooms are basic but perfectly fine for a short stay.

The water pressure was very low, but I think that’s a problem in the area

This is no frills accommodation but we absolutely loved it. Old style, right on the beach, beautiful people, great home cooking.

Not great water pressure, but this probably varies. Some soap in bathroom would be good. I luckily had some with me.

Absolutely fantastic, calm homestay. Only two rooms for the guests, beautiful, traditional Sri Lanka style. Huge balcony with ocean view. Cleab beach, no much waves, swimming was posible in December , not like other places in this area ,were waves were too big. Home made curry for the fan of local cuisine. Hosts were super kind for us. The best home staying e have in Sri Lanka.

The family was very nice and tried to help us with the transport. The host even went on his own to tuk tuk driver because he was not available via phone. There was a fan.

However the communication was difficult because hosts barely speak English. We have used google translate but I think that the translator do not work very well with their language. The bathroom was neglected + cold water only). The house is located nearby some fishermen’s area and they were loud (shouting + working engines and other noises) until late hours (11 pm) and from very early morning (4 am). We are aware that this is low-cost option and didn’t expect top quality, however for 25$ we have found much better places.
