"Check-in disaster narrowly averted; facility was okay but some things lacking"

3.0

We stayed here four nights in November 2024. During two longish vacations to Italy, we've stayed in twelve places. This place, Brugnoli Home, is easily the worst of the lot. Yet some things we liked: The heaters worked, although the adjustment knobs didn't appear to function. There was hot water. The bed was comfortable. There was no television! Some guests might find this to be a negative, but we don't watch it. The kitchen was somewhat equipped, but we found: - Neither napkins nor paper towels. - No coffee for the coffee machine. - No sharp cutting knife (but there was a dull plastic thing). - No soap to wash the dishes by hand (although we did find two large empty soap bottles for the dishwashing machine). Maybe the clothes washer worked, but we found no laundry detergent. The stove worked well, but neither the hood vent nor the light over the stove worked. There was an Aroha Electronics smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, but it was still in its original box, uninstalled, lying on a shelf above the wifi router, which had been left lying on the floor. The windows were nice, but when we went to open a curtain, the curtain and the curtain rod all fell to the floor because the rod had not been attached. A nice restaurant, Michelemmá, was just a block and a half away, and a decent Coop grocery two blocks.

The above were mere annoyances compared to the convoluted, unnecessarily complicated, and nearly disastrous check-in procedure. The "host," Rafael, kept insisting that we fill out an online check-in form. But it was not good enough, and he was unable to help us. He just repeatedly sent us the same link to fill in, which we repeatedly filled in. His help consisted of admonishments such as: "if you don’t insert data you can’t have check in instructions, please" and "please, follow it," but he could not tell us what data was missing or how to enter it. At some point I guess we satisfied his needs because eventually--and only just before arriving by train to Bologna--we were able to download the entry instructions. Luckily we had wifi on the train. Otherwise we would have been left standing in front of the building with no way to get in and no clue as to what to do next. Now, upon arrival and without an Internet connection, we could not enter the building, but a resident kindly let us in, and we were then able to make our way to the apartment. It's sad because with a little bit of thoughtfulness, attention to detail, a reasonable check-in procedure, and a capable host, this might be a decent place to stay.

"Convenient and clean"

10.0

It was clean, had everything I needed, the host was always available if I had questions, and the apartment is walking distance from the center.

There is nothing I can complain about. If I am to return to Bologna, I would definitely stay here again.
