"Clean camping in the jungle"

9.0

Carlos, the owner, is wonderfully friendly and told about the camp’s history and the effects of the Maya train on the local economy and the environment. Yes, you are camping so there is no electricity and yes, you have to walk to the bathrooms, and yes, bathing is a bucket shower. There were no scorpions in the bathroom and the bathing water was clean. I appreciated the handwashing station outside the bathrooms. I was pleasantly surprised how clean the tents were. The floors were perfectly clean, and the bedding was comfortable. And the stars at night—wow! Food at the restaurant was good. There was one vegan option, one vegetarian option, and 2 to 3 dishes with chicken.

These are not negatives, just be prepared: As mentioned by others, the road is a little rough. Just take your time and you’ll be fine. But if you’re going to the restaurant, know that you’ll be doing the 800 m road there and back. Parking is not next to the tent. So be prepared to carry your things in and then back to the car. No toilet paper or towels. Bring your own. Although breakfast is included, if you are leaving early, like many people do to head to the ruins, you’ll need to skip it. It would be nice if they had an earlier breakfast option or the ability to take breakfast with you. The nature trail through the jungle is fine but has a number of fallen trees to step over. It might be nice if they were cleared away.

"A wonderful true camp in the maya jungle"

10.0

You’ll be seeping in the reserve like you should be sleeping in a reserve. Not like eco lodge from the maya train era. You have monkeys, spiders and others insect all around. There is even a path to an observation tower to see birds. Sound of monkeys and birds.

It is stated in the title that it is a campment, but some people do not have understood that it is not a palace.

"Adventurous night in the jungle"

8.0

The campsite is lost inside the jungle which feels quite adventurous. You can spot monkeys and other animals/insects.The beds were comfortable and the tent was clean, no insects or anything inside them. Carlos who welcomed us is very friendly and nice, we ate the family restaurant down the road and it was really good! The breakfast as well. Just an hour away from the site of Calakmul. Overall a good experience!

The amenities (toilets and showers) are very basic with no running water. It is fine for one night though. Juste beware of the insects, I don’t mind them overall but I kind of forgot about the prospect of seeing tarentulas and as an arachnophobe I can tell you I didn’t really like seeing not one but two of them near the bathrooms… but hey if you like them, you’ll love it lol. It is after all their home. Last thing is the heat, we came in mid-september and it was quite hot and moist in the tent, but again for one night it is ok.
