Kingfisher Villa in Mabula Game Reserve

** BEST TRIP EVER ** Amazing place. Amazing staff. Highly recommend will be returning. The game driver Tshepo was so knowledgeable you could ask him anything. We saw all the animals apart from leopard. The staff and William were fantastic nothing was too much for them and the food by Flora was unreal we were eating like kings the whole time! The villa was incredible clean great location. BOOK THIS!

The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was great and the rooms very spacious and comfortable. Lovely setting, well worth the trip. Our game ranger was also excellent and shared a lot of knowledge about the bush.

I booked at kingfisher villa for a last minute bush break and was fortunate enough to have the whole villa to myself. They say luck is being at the right place at the right time but location and timing are to some extent under our control… So when I arrived it was already in the late afternoon. I was picked up from reception by one of the staff members, William. It was not my first time at Mabula but definitely this was the best time. The previous time I stayed in the main lodge. Whereas kingfisher is a separate smaller lodge but still within Mabula Game Reserve. I arrived to a cold towel, welcome drink and valet parking service by Tshepo. Ok fine it was my second welcome drink because i had been waiting at the main reception and was offered a drink while I waited. I entered the lodge and was impressed by the size of the living areas and the view to the pool. I was shown around the main areas and then to my room. Now I am a seasoned and very fussy traveller. I never want to leave my house only to end up in a place that’s not at the same level as my house. So as a minimum requirement, the room must have good light, fresh white linen, fluffy towels, good bathroom lighting, big shower and a fridge that works. Happy to say all my boxes were ticked and all expectations exceeded. Not only did they have a bathtub .. they had bath salts for that tub too - a personal touch that you won’t find in most 5 Star establishments. The bathroom lighting was great - usually with thatch roofed lodges the light is terrible. But not at Kingfisher. You can tell that the person who designed this lodge thought out every detail properly. It is evident from the finishes that the lodge was a labour of love. There is nothing out of place and the workmanship is superior. The staff were amazing - being the only guest obviously made meals a bit tricky because the team is used to catering for bigger groups. But i enjoyed the peace and being able to use the pool with zero disturbance.
