Mary Hut

Priceless view, beautiful layout, spacious kitchen, comfortable beds, well equipped with everything we need, toilet separated from the bathroom, and we simply love the real fireplace! It kept the entire place warm even though it was snowing outside.

We had an amazing time at this lovely home but some of the fittings need simple maintenance - side door lock loose, all doors need oiling, kitchen drawer handle loose, bathroom tap loose, bedroom light bulb & one of the porch light need to be replaced. My husband is a handyman and tried to tighten what he can but unable to replace the bulbs.

Tiles in the shower are extremely slippery when wet! Very dangerous even after I warned my partner. No extra towel to take to Tekapo spring thermal pools. Did a load of washing which came out with lint all over it then realised there is no dryer. Lots of instructions on what items go in which bin but no instruction on where the bins are. No doona cover on the bed. In winter feels like this is a must unless there is a huge blanket. Pillows could be replaced. Coffee pod machine provide but no coffee pods, not asking for an abundance of them but one per person per day seems reasonable.

cold floor, floor heating or carpet would be nice

There was no firewood for the wood fire so I rang Jess and she was around within 20 minutes with some for that night and returned the next day with another armful for our second night. Thanks, it was miserable weather and having the fire was just delightful.

Great view, decent kitchen, able to cook a proper meal on the electric stove. The full kitchen means you’re not at the mercy of restaurant serving 20+ nzd udon or ramen, although I do recommend eating out for a good meal. Do try cooking monk fish fillet from 4squares; I grilled on the stove and roasted it in the oven

For whatever reason, owner decided not to have a trash bin for normal refuse (red top), so had to bring the trash to town for disposal. Gets rather cold at night in autumn, but then again I’m not used to the cold
