Old Barn Cottage

The cottage was so peaceful and relaxing with lovely surrounding countryside views and a great central location for visiting the rest of the lake District towns all close by.

When driving out of the cottage onto the countryside road I always felt a bit nervous as it's on a bit of a blind bend and vehicles seem to pass quite often I don't know if maybe a sign or something would help.

Really liked that it was a home away from home. Already recommended to some friends for a get-together next year

Would have preferred an iron in the property rather than across the courtyard

We weren't sure what to expect at this property but we were pleasantly surprised. Initially couldnt see where to park and then found the driveway up to the cottage rather than the general parking area that is right next door. We received an email with the key box code prior to arrival, which we had no problems with. We entered in to find a 2 level property with bedrooms upstairs and bathroom, with living room, large kitchen and dining room both adjoining the entry. The kitchen was really well appointed and you didnt need anything ... except food ! We did have an issue with the "fireplace" (not real but provides heating) and we used the contact number provided and she was very helpful. She is also able to control the overall heating from her place nearby. It's ideally located in the Lakes District so a perfect point to go exploring from, we regretted not booking another night. Would definitely consider booking here again.

Would be nice to have a real fireplace, it seems booking.com doesnt distinguish between artificial heat and wood/coal fireplaces :(

The master bedroom has alot of black mould inside the back wall of the wardrobe and there is wallpaper peeling off the wall above the bed. The heating was set to come on at 3am to 22.5 degrees which meant we slept terribly. We were woken up boiling hot and forced to get up every night at 3am to turn it down manually. During the day, the heating went down to 15 degrees, and it was far too cold when we returned to the accommodation. We turned it up manually but had to wait very cold for it to warm enough to get into bed (which was cold in the bed). As there are no spare blankets we couldn't get warm easily. The dishwasher did not wash the dishes after being turned on, so we then hand washed everything out of the dishwasher.

Location, cleanliness, well equipped kitchen, big tv in living room.

Beds were so uncomfortable, it was like sleeping on a plank of wood. Settee wasn't comfortable, you sink into it, needs replacing. Shower wasn't powerful enough, but that's personal preference. Being woken up by a spirit who was walking along the landing and opened our bedroom door

The location was ideal for us and the house was clean and well presented.

The heating didn't come on as expected so the house was cold each time we returned after work but we were able to turn it on easily. The sink in the smaller bedroom was quite noisy after use.
