Luxury studio suite in Reykjavik

The room INSIDE LOOKED like the picture but looks and practicality can be very different things. The internet was good. It was a short walk to shops and restaurants but the walk back was always unpleasant as it felt like we were walking back to the bad part of town even though it was only a short distance away.

First impressions killed the place for us. The image on the add showed a green building that was average at best, but on arrival after travelling 24 hours from Australia we were appalled! The taxi pulled up to the green building that had concrete patching all over it and a construction crane in front. We were not made aware that there would be any construction work being done during our stay. The building looked derelict, abandoned and unsafe. There was grafitti all over the walls on this and neighbouring building. There were wooden planks thrown over a large puddle in the entry way to the front door (I guess this was meant to be a careless make shift bridge over the puddle or just construction rubbish). There was also a large bag of abandoned clothes strewn over the entry way making the place look like some sort of hovel or drug den. When we called the owner to confirm if we had in fact arrived at the correct place, the owner was short and curt and not helpful. He just said that the arrival instructions were sent in the email. He did not seem to care that we were distressed at arriving to such a shocking presentation. The kitchen was not user friendly. There was a single drawer with a large knife, can opener, grater etc.... but there was actually no cutlery to eat with. No knives, forks or spoons. There was no oven just a single hotplate. The microwave was on the top shelf inside the kitchen cabinet. I just skim 5 ft and could not put food in or take hot food out safely if I wanted to use it. The shower was literally a glass box that opened transparently to the lounge so there was no privacy for showering or toileting. What was worse is that every time we used the water in the kitchen or bathroom sink or shower, the place stunk like rotten eggs (was the plumbing connected wrong?) This was definitely NOT LUXURY as advertised!!!

The unit itself was excellent however I don’t know why you would have a clear shower screen and toilet visible to all areas in the apartment . Personally I don’t need to watch another person using the ablutions. Some form of screening would be a good idea.

The entrance foyer to the front door of the building is an absolute disgrace with litter and rubbish and weeds mounted up for weeks and as the first thing you see when coming to the unit it is terrible and gives a negative impression before you enter the apartment.
