Funky Monk Hotel

The room was lovely, we had a really nice stay in the room we booked, It was very clean, very well maintained, it smelt excellent and clean when we walked in, the bed was very comfortable and the room it's self was superb. The bar area was maintained to a very high standard, It was very clean, smart and very well looked after. We were provided a welcome drink on check in. It is really easy to get to a tube station from the hotel it's a 10 minute walk through a lovely area so there is good travel links.

Unfortunately our stay was tarnished for a number of reasons, On arrival to the hotel we were greeted by staff who provided us with our welcome drink. My partner and I had barley sat down when a member of staff appeared with the card machine in his hand with £100 keyed in and instructed me to pay it, He was quite abrupt and I found him to be quite intimidating considering he didn't explain what it was for. He told me it was a "security deposit" and it would be refunded on checkout. The £100 was taken from my account as per the transaction, the member of staff had my bank card in his hand after that transaction completed, he then keyed in another transaction and took my bank card and tapped the top of the card machine without my permission! So he used my card for another transaction so I asked him "what are you doing" and took my bank card back I told him he didn't have permission to just use my bank card on another transaction, The reason he had my bank card was he removed it from the card machine after I'd paid the £100 security deposit I presumed he'd just give me it back not use it for a contactless payment. The second payment was £15 for parking which I wasn't happy about as this hotel advertises free parking so I wasn't happy for two reasons 1. That I was charged for over night parking and 2. and most importantly he used my bank card without permission to pay for the parking. Just to note on the parking there is only 3 available spaces to park at the hotel so if you check in later then you won't get a space so please bear this in mind if you're travelling to the hotel as on street parking charges. On check out I was told the £100 would be refunded to my account straight away, It took just under 6 weeks for my £100 to be returned to me after constant communication with hotel management, I was repeatedly told "it'll be with you soon" and it never was.

Location ideal, right on the high street but set back enough that you aren't too bothered by the passing traffic. Staff were welcoming and friendly, glass of fizz on arrival was a lovely touch. Great value, didn't try the food but the selection looked good. Drinks were great value and nice cocktails. Really good value rooms. Very clean and well kept

Room was on the small side but sometimes that's just the way it is, and we only really wanted a bed for the night. No complaints at all.

Unfortunately all the positives were cancelled out by extreme noise from a late evening event that literally had the room shaking. Also ordering breakfast in the morning was fiddly as no one was available until 9 and there was no guidelines on how room service for food worked.

Nice decor and furniture

Not somewhere to book if you actually want to relax or sleep in your room. The room was situated on top of the hotel bar that was being used as a nightclub. I have never experienced such noise in my life. The whole room was reverberating with the sound and it was absolutely impossible to sleep. My husband couldn’t stay in the room it was that loud and went in the garden to sit quietly until it had finished. One of the staff members had the check to tell him he couldn’t sit in the garden because he might disturb the neighbours. Seriously……. What about some consideration for you customers who have paid £165 a night. Our fault for not reading previous reviews. They were bang on. The staff should have warned us. Thank goodness they finally stopped at 12.45 am

I did not have breakfast. The room was very comfortable. But the shower needs descaling it work better on one side.

It needs to say you have to paid £15 parking. Was a surprise when I got there but I was late so I paid it.
