That we left early

Where to begin.. the 'room with mountain view' appeared very nice on the listing. However, when we arrived we were taken to a dingy room in the basement of the building, which was unclean, dimly lit and even included some molluscs as a bonus. The view was into the alleyway outside and the door had to be locked using a padlock, which other guests didn't seem to understand as we were almost locked in at one point. The walls/ceilings in this room were extremely thin, allowing us to hear the guests upstairs using the toilet. There was even a power cut in the evening to add to our unpleasant stay. There was 0 communication from our host beforehand, they definitely could have mentioned after we'd booked that the room we'd reserved wasn't available. I even spoke to the host after we'd checked in to say that the room we'd been given wasn't what we'd booked. He tried to explain that the booking system was faulty or some other sob story, but was more than happy to take our money up front. No refund or reduction was offered. The room we stayed in is not even available to book, which makes me think that the whole thing was planned, as he explained they'd double booked the room we actually wanted. We checked out early, the morning after we arrived, and the host had the cheek to message and act surprised as to why we'd left early. I have nothing positive to say unfortunately. Looking at other reviews I can see that this is not an isolated incident, I only wish that we had checked beforehand.

When we arrived, we were told they were fully booked and that booking had not informed them. It was extremely stressful to find sth else because it was weekend.

Good location

Messaged in advance advising the time I'd be arriving and asking to store my bags if the room wasn't yet ready (1h before check-in), where host replied "subject to availability". Arrived to be told that he'd given the room to other guests and showed me two alternatives, both smaller and with few amenities than the one booked. When I said I wanted my own room, he insisted there was nothing else he could do. He didn't see that it was his problem that he double booked. Speaking with booking.com confirmed that they've received 5 similar complaints in the previous month.
