"Lovely and authentic"

9.0

Great stay at the orange house! Shaman who welcomed us made sure we had everything we needed. We loved the adventure of living on a banana farm. Also, the house is away from the main beach, therefore, it was calm and authentic. We also enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks. Friendly cats and dogs also came by occasionally and said hello. In walking distance there is a supermarket and you can rent a scooter at a place next to the “Carribean Wave” restaurant. I’m short, this is not a hotel - it’s more like an Airbnb. We would definitely stay again. Thanks again Shaman!

"Great place to stay"

8.0

We loved staying at the orange house. It is walking distance to a few restaurants and cafes and stores for basic grocery needs. Walking distance to the beach as well. It is beautiful. There were some cool bugs as our neighbors, they didn't come inside, as long as you keep the door closed . Gets very hot in the room, that was our only challenge, but the cold shower would fix that. Option for a hot shower but we take cold showers here as we are mostly always hot! Shared bathroom was a cool design , it's like showering in banana trees but with privacy. John helped us out with anything we needed and was a great host.

"Poor"

3.0

We were able to book last minute

A 5-10 minute walk down a muddy road to the orange house, when we arrived there was rubbish in the room, the bed sheets had not been changed and were full of sand, although the bed had been made suggesting it was ready to sleep in. The WiFi and water both did not work either, Shamar fixed the WiFi and water and we changed the bedsheets ourselves. We booked this last minute but you would still expect it to be ready at check-in time, or a message saying please give us more time. We were let in the room and given the keys knowing it was still dirty.

"Pleasant"

6.0

The staff was helpful. The room had a stove and cooking utensils. The bed was comfortable. The windows had mosquito nets.

The room was not enough clean. There were cans in front of the building. The water in the shower ran out and you had to wait for it to be refilled.

Very nice accomodation on Big Corn Island! The room is spacious and well equipped and the staff very helpful. Stayed alone, but room is also perfect for a couple. Hammocks outside to chill. There is no AC in the room, but this was not a problem as the temperature in the room was very comfortable. Make sure to take a torch of you're going out till after sunset cause the road to get there is very dark, also gets pretty muddy when it had been raining.

"Too remote place without real access to taxis"

2.0

It’s very quiet and very (!!) remote and between banana trees

It’s so far away from anything that not even taxis go there. I needed to wait for 1.5hrs to get a taxi who drove me there and I missed my flight because I waited so long for a taxi to bring me to airport. Also, I needed to wait for more than 1hour for someone to show up when I wanted to check in. Was not even sure whether I am at the right place. The owner is in Australia and responses within Australian time zone. Toilet was full of insects (inside and outside). Tried to use it as less as possible. I have been told that the guy who usually takes care of the property is not available because of preparation for funeral (and earning money). But then this place should not be rented out if no one takes care of it and availability is very limited. It was quite dirty in general and to get there you need to walk through mud which is not nice when you have bags. There is a guy who helps but you need to wait always a long time for him. I know it’s a poor country and that the people have their difficulties. But it’s all very difficult if you are afraid to miss the plane (which actually happened) or need to get home and no taxi brings you there. For me a lot of stress was involved. Would not recommend it.

"Nice place"

9.0

Nikita, the manager is the loveliest person you will ever meet, so helpful and caring. She will show you the local shop to buy your food to cook. Nikita is also a tour guide and we organised to hire a motorbike for her take me around the island. Unfortunately I rained the whole time I was there and it was unsafe so we took the local bus while she pointed things out to me and we had a lovely lunch together at a beachfront restaurant together. The room is large, it has cooking facilities and the bathroom has hot water. It is a large property with lots of trees and fruit trees and Nikita would bring me bananas, papaya and passionfruit.

Not a complaint, but be aware this is the opposite direction of the more touristy part and a bit isolated. It is accessed by a dirt road (mud in my case!) but I met the locals on my way up and down.
