"A perfect cottage getaway"

10.0

A lovely little cottage with great views over the gorge and in brilliant surroundings, Martha's Cottage has all the features of a period house with enough modcons to make for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The cottage is tastefully decorated and incorporates the period features: ceiling beams, original floorboarding, and open brickwork fireplace, to name but a few. Despite its appearance, it's deceptively spacious for a family stay. There's private parking and a garden area to the front of the property. There's free WiFi with good signal throughout, as well as flat screen, smart TVs both in the living area and bedrooms. Although we didn't play any, games are also provided. Kitchen benefits from cooker, hob and a microwave so lots of cooking options too. The hosts even provide all the anemities such as tea/coffee, hand soaps, towels, and even cooking oil and tin foil! We needn't have packed so heavily. This is alongside the expected pots, pans and cutlery, etc. The cottage benefits from its elevated position, overlooking the river and gorge opposite. The famous bridge can even be seen from the bedroom window upstairs. The main street is but a few minutes walk away. You get a perfect mix of being close to local shops/attractions with all the benefits of a quiet lane location. Prior to our stay, the hosts were in regular contact through booking.com with check-in instructions. There's also more detailed information about the cottage inside on arrival.

Travelling with a toddler can always present challenges, and although this is no criticism, the uneven original floorboards and open, steep staircase did present a few issues. For older children, this will certainly not be a problem. For those who prefer showers (like us), the mixer tap with shower head attachment wasn't the most ideal, but it didn't detract from a brilliant stay.
