Vila Luis Mendes

Beautiful grand house, beds were comfy and there was lots of space. It's really well positioned close to loads of bars and restaurants and just a few minutes walk to the beach (where there is a bar that serves very good value cocktails which you can drink while you watch the sunset). Raquel was a lovely host and really helpful.

The house was exactly as advertised. It was very clean and well equipped. The terrace with the fireplace was great to still be able to spend a slightly cooler evening outside. The living space downstairs with the large kitchen as well as dining and living area are very well suited for up to 6 people, although we were only 3 people staying there. The three bedrooms upstairs are sized adequately for two people per room. The only small drawback to consider is that all three rooms on the first floor share one bathroom. There is, however, another bathroom with a shower on the ground level, which is conveniently accessible from outside, which makes it very handy not to have to go through the house when spending an evening on the terrace. There is a separate garage with a gate belonging exclusively to the house. The house is situated in a very central, close to the beach part of Ribeira Brava, within a few minutes walking distance from two supermarkets and restaurants. Our host, Raquel, was very nice and helpful and repeatedly asked throughout our stay if there was anything we needed. Safe to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come again if ever on this beautiful island.

The location is perfect. A small oasis within the city centre. The hosts are fantastic.

Excellent villa, super nice host, prime location and own parking. Perfect for three couples or families. Easy access by car around the island.

We spent lovely two weeks in Madeira and we are happy that we choose Vila Luis Mendes as our accommodation. It is located in a perfect starting spot for exploring Madeira. Whole island is within 1 hour drive at max. E,g, lava pools in Porto Moniz are about 40 minutes drive. Parking spot is spacey and easily accessible - just be aware you have to drive through "No vehicles" sign - there is an exception for guests :) Beach, groceries and restaurants are in walking distance. Vila itself is perfect for family vacation - three bedrooms a lot of space in and around house. Really loved it. Raquel was perfect host and provided us with a lot of tips and guidance for our stay in Madeira.

One thing to keep in mind - we knew about this before booking, so it is just for transparency: - there is church nearby - you will hear the church bell from 7AM to 10PM - that is actually great if you need to get up for your next planned levada walk as we did, but don't expect to sleep in ;)

We loved the house, the garden. It was exactly like the pictures. The host is very kind, we got a lot of help for having a really good holiday. Everything was a minute away.

If you choose this house, you have to accept that this is not a quiet neighbourhood. You have to get used to the noise of the street and the constant ringing of the bells of the church next door.
