Macondo Mpai bay

Mela and Ian are super friendly hosts. They gave me a lot of suggestions where to eat, what to do and where to go on the island. I ended up hanging out with them at their bar at night. There was an incident with my room‘s window and Ian had fixed it in less than an hour. I highly recommend them :)

Lovely people running it. Close to the beach, shops etc. Restaurant and bar at property. Filtered water on tap. Very welcoming atmosphere. Beautiful building architecture, furnishings and plants.

Can be noisy and night time due to nearby bars

12/10 would stay here again! My partner and I stayed here for 6 nights and it truly felt like our home away from home. The location was perfect; a two minute walk to the beach and is near bars/restaurants. The staff/owners are the kindest people and put in a lot of care to ensure that their guests are comfortable. Our biggest regret about the whole trip was that we never ordered Mela's famous dumplings! We know better for next time though. Cannot recommend enough!

Mela and Ian are excellent hosts, very sweet and attentive. The guesthouse is located on a quieter part of the village but still very close to the beach and everything else around. The rooms are simple, yet very comfortable. They serve some amazing dumplings, some of the best that I have ever eaten, and they are also very cheap. I've really enjoyed my stay and am looking forward to come back someday.

I really enjoyed my stay at Macondo! The owners, Ian and Mela, are super friendly and give great recommendations on what to do in M'pai Bay. The accommodation is located in the middle of the village, and only a 10 minute walk to the beach. The room was spacious, the mattress was very comfortable and I really liked that the accommodation is a traditional wooden house giving an authentic feel. The shared balcony is also very nice to relax and read a book. When you stay at Macondo don't forget to try Mela's amazing dumplings - they're one of the best ones I've had!

Best value stay on the island. Owners are lovely and so helpful, the room and clean and comfortable. The vegan dumplings are also delicious.

Good and comfortable bed with clean sheets, efficient and well-positioned fan, proper mosquito net, enough space for hanging wet towels and swimwear after beachlife. Common areas will look good after they are finished and we also stayed there to play some games etc and were able to have our own food and drinks as well (hope it stays that way = budget option). Free filtered drinking water (hope it stays that way too). Helpful owners and lovely cat!

Not the cleanest, I didn’t see the bathrooms being cleaned during our stay at all and the fan in our room was dirty (makes the air quality worse). Only cold water in the shower (didn’t bother us). Construction work/ reno still ongoing and all the materials everywhere in the common areas - will look good when they slowly get the job done. Some sounds from the streets in the evening and morning (rooster) but quiet at night.

Macondo is in a great location, close to the beach and amongst all the bars and restaurants. The couple that run the place are nice too

Unfortunately we came when they were doing work on the property. It would have been nice to know this before hand so we could have booked somewhere else as “the little jobs” they were doing lasted all of our 4 day stay. The whole place was a bit of a building site and work started early in the morning and lasted all day. So we couldn’t use the communal area as it was covered in dust and tools. The general cleanliness of the place wasn’t great - I don’t think the bathroom was cleaned once whilst we were there. It was all very disruptive and not the relaxing environment we wanted for our stay. Pretty disappointing to have paid full price for a place that’s still in progress.

Mela and Ian are wonderful people and great hosts, we stayed at Macondo for 5 nights but could’ve easily stayed longer. Macondo is a stones throw away from the beach and pier, close to local amenities and eateries. The room was great and made for such a comfortable stay. The community of M’pai Bay is unique to the islands of Cambodia and we really felt a part of it even if for a short time. We loved it here, we couldn’t recommend Macondo enough.

Some renovation work currently underway, we’re just sad we won’t get to see it when it’s finished!

the owner is a beautiful nice-going Chinese lady with good cooking of Chinese dumplings.she also help me printing and lending me slippers. Her USA husband is also very nice and zealous to help me. Very appreciate her considerated hospitality. The one person big bed fan room is low price but big, silent, clean and bed is soft. also very few mosquitoes. whole place is just remodeled in an antique decorations with this couple's love and care. Worth the penny and VERY recommend..
