Victoria’s Place

Really lovely property which is located a very short walk from the city centre. Very clean and comfortable, the bedrooms and bathroom are an excellent size with comfortable bed and clean towels and linen.

We had an issue with no cold water to the upstairs which meant the upstairs toilet took all night to fill and we couldn’t shower as the water was scalding hot. Otherwise this would have been a 5 * property.

It was close to the center of Chelmsford and shopping area. I was able to warm up food in the microwave and cook a coffee in a french press. It was warm.

It wasn’t cleaned to good hygiene standards. The washing machine wasn’t usable because of mold, oven wasn’t usable because of uncleaned grease, fridge was full of crumbles, freezer had leftover empty packages in it. The tea/coffee containers were not clean and were having coffee and tea rests from previous guests. An opened bottle of oil and an opened box of oatmeal was in the pantry???!!! Not an antibacterial cleaning product to see, no detergent. Just sponges and dish soap, not even kitchen paper towels in the kitchen. There were no visible instructions for a person not familiar with the British system of recycling and disposing of waste.

The shower was of good pressure. The house was nice and warm when we arrived and there was good quality toilet paper.

Where do I start… The kitchen sink didn’t have a bowl or plug, lacking in cutlery and the tray was dirty. Everything clearly had to be washed before used, but we didn’t want to use anything because of this. One of the knobs on the cooker had been visibly burnt and melted. There were dead spiders and flies around the kitchen and the wall surrounding the cooker was yellow! There was medication left on the microwave, which I’m extremely upset and concerned about because we had two young children with us and had they have gotten hold of this first!! The living room felt like a student accommodation! Miss matched cheap, tired and dirty furniture. We had to put a duvet on the sofa as we didn’t want to sit on it. Under the sofa was absolutely filthy! A dirty shoe and sock amongst other things. The television didn’t work when we arrived. I messaged the owner, it took 1.5 hours to reply and then another 2 hours to get it fixed! Upstairs, the bedrooms were not clean either. Under the bed was filthy and behind furniture hadn’t been cleaned either. Someone’s dirty hair bobble was left on the floor. A plug socket had been botched back together and was visibly dangerous! A half eaten crisp packet was left on top of the wardrobe! There are cracks in most of the ceilings and mould in the bathroom. The blinds are absolutely knackered and not really fit for purpose! I mean I could go on…. It absolutely ruined our stay for visiting family in Essex and the owners should be ashamed that they think they can even charge any amount of money and expect people to pay to stay in such poor conditions. I am extremely disappointed and hope that the owners reach out to offer some sort of refund!!
