Location, amazing views of Lough Gill, very spacious

From reviews that we had read beforehand, we knew that the kitchen would probably not be that well stocked and we are aware that the apartments are usually student accommodation, BUT … wow, advertising this as a “luxury aparthotel“ is a joke. With a bit of imagination you can see that the apartments were probably quite nice 10 years ago, but it seems that there has been no sort of maintenance ever since - furniture, walls, surfaces, everything looks battered and worn-out. The dishwasher was not working properly, the shower doors were broken. The whole apartment seemed thoroughly “unclean“, there was dust everywhere, marks on the tables, grease in the kitchen drawers, mould in the bathrooms, we had to wash the cutlery and plates before using them, because there were marks on them. The apartment is meant to accommodate up to 6 people, but there were only 2 spoons in the kitchen drawer, not enough plates etc. It was impossible to actually cook basic food like pasta, because the only suitable pot only had one handle (the other one broken off) and the lid was also broken. There were no lightbulbs (!) in any of the bedside lamps, meaning we could only use the ceiling lamps. Something else to be aware of if you are traveling with children: all doors in the apartment are VERY heavy (fire safety regulations?), our kids could not open them themselves and we were really worried that they would get their fingers stuck in the doors. One last thing: we booked a “penthouse apartment“, which was more expensive than any of the ordinary apartments, because it was said to have a balcony - this is not the case. None of the apartments have a balcony that you can actually use to sit outside. To reach the front door to our apartment we had to walk across some sort of terrace (shared with another apartment, facing another building), which was slippery and covered with verdigris and - I wish I was joking - there was a dead bird right beside the door which must have dead for quite a while.

Locality and views were amazing

Quite basic. Internet wasn’t great. Towels provided were hand towels. Only one very flat pillow each

Spectacular views over the lake. Beds comfy. Regular bus service into town.

No cleaners. No towel & bedding changes, Not cleaned sufficiently well on arrival.
