Merida's Mexican Caribbean Cutie

Prachtig huis met leuk zwembad in een rustige wijk.

De waterdruk in het huis was wat laag waardoor er weinig water uit de douche kwam.

Het eerste dat opvalt zijn de ontzettend gave muurschilderingen in het huis, daarna het zwembad en wat ook heel handig is in Merida, is de eigen parkeerplaats zodat de huurauto beschermd en beschut staat. Geen overbodige luxe in Merida. Voor iedereen is dit een TOPhuis. Het is namelijk heel groot. Op de benedenverdieping bevindt zich een slaapkamer met een groot 2 persoonsbed, grote keuken, eetkamertafel met 6 stoelen met op de bank nog plaats voor 3 personen, een badkamer met douche. Achter de patiodeur ligt het zwembadje met zelfs een reddingsvest voor een klein kind. Een grote palmboom en een badkamer, ook met douche. Op de bovenverdieping heb je een slaapkamer met 2 grote 2 persoonsbedden. In theorie zouden hier dus 4 kinderen kunnen slapen. Ideale accomodatie voor een groot gezien of vriendengroep. We hebben ook een paar keer gekookt, want het huis heeft alle keukengerei en zelfs een smoothie mixer. Merida is een mooi stadje, waar je een leuke stadtour kan doen, maar we hebben het vooral gekozen als uitvalsbasis voor Celestun en tour met quardianes de los Manglares de Dzinintun, een organisatie die zich inzet voor behoud en herstel van de Mangroves. Daarnaast is Merida ook een goede uitvalsbasis voor archeologische sites als Uxmal en Kabah en enkele gave cenotes!

Niets aan het huisje. De wegen in Merida wel. Vooral bij slecht weer, we waren er in het regenseizoen, kunnen wegen soms onbegaanbaar worden.

The property was easy to access with a keyed pad and seemed quite secure. Overall, the space including the pool was clean and pleasant. The beds were comfortable if a little firm. The owner was excellent—friendly, polite and quick to answer questions about the property and the area. Excellent refrigerator. Shampoo, soap and dish detergent provided. A nice little treat basket was left as well. We didn't use it, but it was appreciated. The fact that pets did not cost extra was a surprise bonus. The provided parking with gate was great (our Kia Soul just fit so anything bigger would have a problem). I have a lot of details about what I didn't like about the property, but overall it was a decent place to stay (except for the loud street).

The street is very noisy, day and night except for around 3:00 in the morning. The main living area is a bit of an echo chamber and could be improved by adding some soft furniture or something to absorb the sound. The second bedroom is separated by a courtyard and up a flight of stairs. The second bathroom is at the bottom of the stairs. The conch shower heads are cute but not very functional. As for pets, the property has lots of room for them to move around, but the courtyard has no area for them to do their business. Outside, there are few areas where the dogs can use the bathroom. We managed to find an odd tiny patch of grass here and there. There is a park within walking distance, but it is used by many animals who leave "treats." Unfortunately, the property is not actually walkable to centro and any of the places most tourists would want to visit. Also, there are few restaurants nearby and the only coffee shop within walking distance does not open until noon.
