"Great host but Place had too many insects, no window screens and no fans."

5.0

Host was very accomodating. We were not aware that place was very isolated and had only 1 small sari sari store. There were no place to eat at and host was quick to offer us what she had-lot of rice, vegetable fritters and fried eggs. She also had enough to prepare us dinner. Meals were 200 pesos per person which was reasonable.

None was mentioned about having to deal with all sorts of insects. Windows did not have screens. No fan available. Room was hot with no breeze coming in. We had to close window due to all insects and mosquitoes coming in. Bathroom had opening at top to share its light source onto outdoor hall way and so you take shower with whatever creatures light attracts. Best to shower and do your business in the daytime.

Vilma's place was very clean, comfortable and relaxing. Vilma was very welcoming and friendly and provided us with many tasty local dishes as well as plentiful tea and coffee. The location provided great opportunities to meet with the locals and to experience the Malicong rice terraces during the cool of the early morning or in the morning.

No complaints.

Vilma's cuisine is a real plus (and very affordable). Perfect location to explore the rice terrasses.

A bitbof miscommunication when I arrived (the jeepney was delayed so Vilma thought I would come later and was not here when I showed up, so I had to wait some time). But overall not her fault, so all is good, just make sure to say what time you will arrive.

"As good as it gets, but not "wonderful""

5.0

Vilma's place is at the exact start of the trails to the rice terraces and up Mt Kupapey, so the location couldn't be better. There's a convenience store of sorts about 50m up the road back towards town. They sell e.g. ramen noodles which comes in handy when Vilma hasn't had time to cook. Staying here sure beats staying in Bontoc if you're here to see the rice terraces. I loved the tiny "library" of books to read while laying in one of the hammocks.

I'm not sure, given the (town's) circumstances, that the place could have been better, but that doesn't mean it's "wonderful". There's no wifi and your sim card won't work. The toilets don't flush (use the buckets). The bed is a 2-inch piece of foam, which really is actually fine if you like hard beds. The place really is clean - Vilma is always cleaning! - but there are still ants, roaches, spiders etc. Her dogs and cats will be up in your face while you try to eat. Even so, I'm willing to bet this is the very best place to stay in Favuyan. I write the above only so that people have realistic expectations.
