Apple Lodge self contained annex

Quiet, good location to attend family wedding in local village. Clean. We were grateful for the pint of fresh milk left in fridge for us.

A lingering strange smell, likely as it is winter and windows not opened. It did not spoil our stay but a bit of Fabreze or air freshener would have been helpful.

Lovely accommodation that made us feel relaxed and cosy immediately. It was absolutely spotless and a much better standard than the majority of hotels I've stayed in. Good location to drive to towns and different attractions. Owners were very friendly.

Extremely clean and homey. Good location, remote yet still only a short drive to amenities. The owners are so nice.

If I had to be really picky and find a fault it would be that there was not tea/coffee bits. Almost all other accommodations supply enough for a couple of drinks.

The location was lovely - Chilton Polden is a small village, just 10 miles from Glastonbury and the location suited us very well. Also, our Host, Michelle, was friendly and helpful, like her bothering to welcome us into the annex, showing us where everything was and texting me via Booking.com to apologise for having no synthetic bed linen or pillow cases, as I couldn't use her feather pillow cases, but managed with the feather duvet for the week. Apple Lodge was also very clean, which was nice as we've sometimes had to clean places before we felt comfortable to cook in them etc

There were a total of c. 5 things that we didn't like and I'll list them here, as I've already given some constructive feedback to Michelle directly in a 'Thank You' card and advised her to invest in all of these when she can afford to do this. 1. There wasn't one sharp knife in the kitchen, not even a sharp knife for peeling vegetables and I especially struggled with this as I have Chronic Joint Pain. After 1 attempt to peel potatoes and vegetables using the vegetable peeler, my husband took over peeling the vegetables whilst I prepared other parts of our meals 2. The sofa upstairs in the sitting area of the bedroom was extremely uncomfortable. Both my husband and I have bad backs/ damaged backs and we tried our best to find comfortable sitting positions on it. Richard managed to use my discarded two feather pillows to have behind his neck and back but, in the end, my back was so bad that I had to bring a dining table chair from downstairs/ the kitchen diner; put my own pillows on it on top of two of the cushions supplied and rest my legs and feet on our biggest suitcase, with more cushions on that to ease the pain in my back/ find some comfort 3. I've suggested to Michelle that she gives her guests the choice of Feather or Synthetic Bedding, including pillows. I also have a damaged nose and am allergic to House Dust/ Mites and couldn't cope with the two feather pillows that were provided, so had to go out and buy two Synthetic Pillows in order to get a reasonable night's sleep without sneezing! 4. I've also told Michelle that, in my opinion, cheap toilet paper is a false economy. The loo roll provided was so cheap that it broke up very easily and stuck to one's bottom! Not pleasant to use!

The property was beautiful, modern, functional and very clean. The area was stunning and so peaceful and the owners were super friendly, chatty and helpful but also gave us privacy.
