"Ok stay in the medina with lots of noise"

6.0

The location is really good. Very close to a small, sunny square with really nice restaurants and good quality, also close to the fish market and the local veggie and fruit places, where you get everything to cook. Not too far from artsy shops and the beach. The owner was easy to reach via the messaging app of Booking.

The Riad is called Riad Darko, it has several listings under different names. The house had a slight toilet smell, the toilets were not cleaned every day (e.g. emptying the baskets) and I had to ask 2x to refill the toilet paper, which the second time the cleaning lady left me at the floor, but did not even bother to bring it to the toilet herself. The guy that showed me the room was really disinterested and unwelcoming, and hanging out there half of the day listening loudly to music on the phone or chatting with the cleaning lady. The overall vibe of the house is a bit heavy, old, and several things could be renewed, including furniture and supplies in the kitchen. The shower had paint peeling off on the bottom, which I first thought was dirt. A little uncomfortable to shower in and certainly quick to fix. Like most Riads, rooms have windows and doors facing inwards, so you hear everything. If the staff is hanging out at the Riad half of the day being noisy, it's annoying and simply unprofessional. At the same time there was construction work on the roof top without mentioning before, so terrace could not be used, which was one of the nicest pics in the add, and banging started 8:30am, but luckily finished early afternoon, so that was the least bothering thing. Things can be drastically improved, if the staff changes and if the old furniture in the kitchen and the bathroom shower gets a new painting, and if the cuttlery and supplies are renewed. Overall it's more pleasant if the design of a Riad is matching throughout the house, instead of some parts having really ugly old furniture and some a new, completely different paint. Probably an energy cleanse of the house would do well. Other than that, it was of course very cheap and in a good location.
