Game Haven Lodge

This is a relaxing, safe spot to get away from it all, not far from Blantyre. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with a good, quiet ceiling fan over the bed (but no AC) with a small patio in the back, all to yourself. All of the animals roam free and you can walk alone or with a guide (no extra fee) throughout the property. For those not inclined to take a hike, there is a 1 hour game drive in a Land Rover (no extra fee). The restaurant food was excellent although pricey compared to restaurants in Blantyre. I chose the full-board option so I only had to pay for the (over priced) drinks. The swimming pool was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great value for money (if you take the full board option).

The game in the game park is somewhat limited, a few zebras, eland, waterbuck, nyala, impala and similar animals, plus one lonely giraffe. The golf course is the poorest I have ever played on. The promised bicycles were not available (all broken). The restaurant menu was broad but overpriced. The shower was difficult to regulate, so getting consistent warm water (not scalding hot, not ice cold) was an effort.

Gorgeous location and it was nice to be able to go for long walks around the property. Beds were very comfortable. Staff were all very friendly and helpful and the game drive was fun. My husband enjoyed a round of golf on the 9-hole course. Saw a giraffe and lots of zebra, impala, nyala, waterbuck and wildebeest.

The restaurant is quite expensive compared to similar (perhaps better) restaurants in nearby Blantyre. We were told the day we arrived that they had run out of coffee, but they don’t do shopping until Monday, so we had no coffee for the entire stay (only instant sachets).

Walking in rain from room to . Also unfortunately the geyser burst in roof and room flooded. However, the staff were great and gave recompense which I thought was great.

La nourriture est très bonne et le cadre très sympa. Le personnel est très agréable.

Les salles de bains sont un peu anciennes et, dans ma chambre, l'eau n'avait pas beaucoup de pression et la douche était bouchée. Comme partout en Afrique, le personnel travaille des longues journées de 12h. Avec l'argent que les propriétaires gagnent, ils pourraient bien proposer des journées de travail plus courtes. Ça fait mal au cœur de les voir là-bas du matin au soir.
