"Disappointing, and tiring!"

5.0

The living room was spacious and cosy. There was a good looking log burner with freshly chopped wood available but it turned out to be electric! Modern TV had all the channels and Netflix too. My wife says the bathroom was excellent although that wasn't wheelchair accessible and didn't have a wheelchair shower.

There was no possibility to have breakfast in the accommodation unless you brought it with you and you had it cold. Despite it being classified as a "kitchen" there were crockery, knives and forks but no sink to wash them in. There were no glasses other than 2 champagne goblets. No microwave. The only facilities were a tea/coffee maker and some snacks. There was a restaurant on site but I didn't try breakfast. The restaurant wasn't open in the evening. The major problem was we booked this accommodation because it was classed as accessible/wheelchair friendly. It was none of the sort. Front door was not accessible. The rear door was very difficult to access because it had a step followed by a step-over threshold, at the same time through a narrow door. 2 more doors (also very narrow) led to main bedroom which was not accessible because it had a 90° turn, too narrow to negotiate. Even if this had been possible the main bedroom required a further 90° turn in front of the chimney breast and this was much too narrow to negotiate. Hence we had to stay in the 2nd bedroom which had a single bed and another pull-out bed below it. This room was extremely noisy with traffic and the single glazing didn't help. Consequently we did scrape the door & door frame with the wheelchair. I telephoned before we checked out to explain and apologise. However upon arriving home I was met with an email together with notification that they had taken £499 from my account for damages. Completely separate to this was that Samlesbury Hall charged me £25 per dog (small breeds) for the stay despite it saying on the website that dogs stayed free.

Quirky old property, full of character, set in lovely grounds.

Didnt appreciate how busy the main road would be and due to the old nature of this building it was only single glazed, could do with some secondary glazing to eliminate the noise. Not a full kitchen so you can only cook in microwave and had no bbq in garden as discribed so we ended up eating out, had to wash up any pots in bathroom sink.

"A lovely stay in a historical building"

9.0

It was a lovely property, very private and in lovely surroundings. It had pretty much everything we needed and it had a lovely light, airy feel. It was clean and comfortable, and the staff we spoke to were lovely and very helpful.

Having no kitchen area wasn’t ideal - so filling the kettle from the bathroom sink was awkward, for example, but it was totally fine.
