Sunbird Ku Chawe

Originally we liked the location, being at the top of the mountain, and we came for the view and the prospect of a great hotel…

The property itself is ok, but it’s completely over rated (been staying in various places in Malawi, way better than this with fantastic service for half the price). It took them an hour and a half to check us in ‘cause they didn’t have our booking from Booking.com, couldn’t find it and I had to forward it to them. And were just told to look around the hotel in the meanwhile. Not the good class hotel you would have expected. we came for the great Zomba view but because something was constantly being burnt somewhere in the hill there was just constant smoke coming over, and you couldn’t see anything, especially not from our room/balcony, which was just above it. Not to mention the awful smell. I mentioned it to a staff but he wasn’t upset about it, just told us not to open the windows. We sat by the pool for awhile, where there was obviously no service so I went to the bar to ask for drinks. Was told not to wait for it, they would bring it to us. After more than half an hour I climbed back up the stairs to the bar to check for the drinks (soda and water). It had been forgotten, but they brought it in another 15 minutes. Btw it was not busy at all. Very weird staff and service in general. And we just got a glimpse of what we came for…the spectacular view from up there…

The wifi internet was terrible. I understand and accept that for internet and cellphone service, the location presents major understandable challenges. But the wifi was terrible and disconnected within seconds of use. My only complaint.

We loved the location and the view from this hotel is spectacular. Pool area is nice and has toilet facilities. Rooms are extremely generous Staff were very good.

The rooms could do with updating.
