Central to Shrewsbury and in a very atractive location close to the river..

There was a general shabbiness inside the property.. The furnishings were very old, but saying that, the beds were comfortable and the bed linens were clean..

The location

When arriving it took forty minutes of frantic phone calls to the property owner and booking.com to obtain the keysafe number, each blaming the other for not sending it to us. Once entering the house my husband had to clean the grill plate and a frying pan filled with dirty grease, the rest of the house was extremely dusty, the fireplace in the dining room hadn't been cleaned in months, we could actually write in the dust, window sills were full of insects, live and dead ones. There were cobwebs in every corner of each room. The chairs in the dining room were really uncomfortable as was the sofa, all you felt when sat on the sofa was wood blocks. The booking was for six adults so you would expect six of everything, especially in the kitchen cutlery drawer, but there was only five. On Saturday evening, my husband sat on the bed and it collapsed, we took the mattress off to find two of the slats were being held to the frame by plastic bags and there had been a previous break and had several nails in it, photos of the damage was sent to the owner, the reply was "there was no way we've done this with plastic bags, am assuming a previous guest" only to then see a review from February reporting the single beds needed repairing. The description of the house was way off the mark, there is no view to the river from the non-existent garden. When we moved the sofa in the lounge all we saw was dirt and dust from a Christmas tree, the house needs a dam good thorough clean from top to bottom. There is no ensuite as stated in the description either, what there is, is a sink and toilet in one of the double bedrooms, but the door is locked so it can't be used.

"Mixed as we had problems but loved Shrewsbury"

7.0

Spacious and in a great location

Very difficult to control water temperature in the shower . Unfortunately we had an infestation of flying ants that left their nest one night . Was horrifying but aware you can’t control nature, we were supplied with powder and traps the next day but every morning we always had a few but nothing compared to that one evening .

"Historic house in a great location"

10.0

This is an exceptional location by the river and close to everything you could possibly need. We loved staying in such a spacious, historic house so near to the centre of Shrewsbury. Amazing that you have space to park right outside, too!

For us (who like to cook) the fridge was quite small, but that wouldn't be a problem if you want to eat out - and there are certainly a lot of good options nearby.

"Easter break"

8.0

The location was very good

No key code given to enter property until cleaner contacted us. Property needs lots of attention. Shower very dangerous. Soil pipe outside leaks even though reported no comment from owner. A deep clean and lots of maintenance would make this property more enjoyable to stop in.

"Beautifull house with terrible facilities and a lack of care by owners"

3.0

We loved the character of this old property full of history and stories and how its was eccentric and miss matched

Dispute the lovely old house there were major issues including a broken bannister, broken light in bathroom, and door knob in one bedroom and very rickerty four poster but more important was that two side lamps in attic room had no sockets near to plug them into and the shower didn’t work. Water was either scolding hot or ice cold and the temp gauge didn’t work so we couldn’t use it at all as was dangerous. There was also no welcome pack no visitor book… nothing to tell us how to sort the heating or WiFi and no details on how the leave the space when we left.

Another wonderful weekend in an amazing house which is in a fantastic location. Everything you need is catered for. Hosts were available if you needed them. Will definitely stay again.
