BEI had mixed feelings about my stay. On the positive side, the house is in a quiet, peaceful area surrounded by nature, which is great if you’re looking to disconnect. The café/restaurant of the house is very nice, different options to choose from and the setting feels very calm.
The property itself looks brighter and more modern in photos than in reality. My room was quite dark, and some areas (like the bathroom and common spaces) felt a bit worn. The location can be inconvenient without a scooter. It’s about a 6–7 minute walk from the main road through a dark path, so I often had to take a tuk-tuk at night to feel comfortable. Also, despite being described as a surf house, there were no social or group activities, and the place was very quiet during my stay. When I arrived, I asked if I could adjust my booking due to the location, but this wasn’t possible because of their policies, which is understandable.

GBBeds and pillows honestly 10/10 super comfy Location was nice Walkable to restaurants, secret beach and most main spots if you don’t mind walking between 5-20 mins to places Off the main road so is a quiet location Super clean , rooms are cleaned daily along with the shared bathroom Free water dispenser which actually has cold water not just room temperature Nice cafe at the hostel too
Sadly I did have ants in my bed on the second night not the hostels fault as such but I honestly don’t know where they came from No ac in the dorm but you do have a personal fan at the end of your bed which saved me !! Not much of a social vibe if you are looking to socialise
PTSuper nice finding! It's a very good place to stay - super central, nice room with everything cleaned and well mantained. Good garden with relaxin area, and also very nice Makai Cafe to eat & chill a bit. The place is super ahangama central, that is great to explore the coast. All the staff were supper friendly and helpful. Really cost & value relation. Thanks Makai Team
LKAmámos ficar no Makai. Fomos super bem recebidos e foi uma estadia super relaxante. Tudo fluiu na perfeição. O Makai está situado numa ótima localização, dá para ir a pé para todo o lado. As camas são super confortáveis e por isso vamos voltar de certeza absoluta!!
PTA truly special place with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. MAKAI stands out for its incredible food — every meal was fresh, full of flavor, and clearly prepared with great care. The overall vibe is calm and enjoyable, making it easy to slow down and fully enjoy the experience. Everything was clean, well organized, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. It’s more than just a place to stay…it’s a place to enjoy, disconnect, and come back for the food alone. Highly recommended.

ITLKGBGreat location and lovely spacious dorm. The owner and staff are amazing!! I had an injury and before I’d even checked in she helped me with it, and checked up the following days. Chilled atmosphere, only 10/15 minutes from restaurant and beach.
No AC so the room did get pretty hot, but there’s lots of fans to help with this. Only issue for me was that our windows were open constantly with no way to close, and with lots of mosquitos in the area we got pretty bitten!
