Danaë Port House

The location is fantastic and the staff were very kind and helpful. It has everything you need and more.

From the moment Dana greeted us at the port, we knew we were in for something special. Alongside her partner Gunnar both fascinating individuals with incredible life experiences and a deep love for Hydra, we felt instantly welcomed and cared for. Their warmth and local insight added a personal touch that elevated our entire experience. We stayed in a 400-year-old multi level building that radiates authentic charm of Hydra houses while offering all the modern comforts one could hope for. The interiors are thoughtfully restored, preserving the soul of the house with original and traditional finishes, yet equipped with air conditioning, a kitchenette, and bathroom. Each morning was a dream, sunlight streaming through our bedroom windows, casting a golden glow over Hydra town rooftops and the masts of boats gently swaying in the harbor below. It was like waking up inside a painting. Hydra has many highlights you’ll fall in love with from the port with it’s horseshoe shaped harbor filled with fishing boats, and expensive yachts lined with vibrant cafés, and bougainvillea-draped alleys, shops, restaurants, and streets lined with stone mansions. Going for walks and getting lost amongst the many stone lined streets is an experience in itself, where every corner treats you with an unexpected surprise. And to cap it off, the islands car-free policy adds to the island’s peaceful charm where donkeys and water taxis are the main modes of transport. Hydra is a gem of the Greek Islands and the central location and charm of our Danaë Port House made our stay a beautiful experience that we will never forget.

Hydra houses are built up the mountain and the steps to reach certain destinations can be taxing for the elderly.

Gunnar met us at the boat and took our bags and us to the room, He explained where some great restaurants and activities to do were, and both he and Dana were excellent hosts. They even did a load of washing for us.

The apartment was a little old - but in true Greek island style. It was a traditional house.

Really friendly host who picked us up from the boat, gave us tips for places to eat and was reslly flexible when we asked to check out late so our toddler could nap. Apartment was beautiful, very comfortable, great views, lovely balcony. 2 mins from the main harbour.

Just be warned if travelling with kids in a pram or a lot of luggage - getting to the apartment involves some stairs.

My family and I had the best Easter weekend in Hydra and Danaë really made it even better. The communication with the owner was excellent and they even waited for us at the port. Such a great hosts. The location was so convenient, close to the port but still quiet. Not too much walking for my older mum. The place was a traditional, full of classical details and the view was amazing. We loved to sit on the terrace and enjoy Hydra landscape . We felt very welcomed and home. The beds were comfortable, shower worked fine, and also A/C was ok.

The kitchen could be a bit bigger but we still managed to cook some Easter delicacies.

The location of the property is perfect, in the heart of the port, and the house is 300 years old. You get beautiful views from the windows that feel like a painting.

The house facilities need an update, the mattress is old and hard, the shower is tiny and it doesn't create you the desire to shower. It was okay for two nights, but I cannot imagine staying longer. Apart from the bed linen, the apartment cleanness was not good.
