Grand Lake Hotel

Awesome little gem! Cool retro vibe decor and awesome friendly staff! (Note, even though check in time on the booking may mention certain hours, just give them a call once you're there and they'll be there in a couple of minutes to check you in if it happens to be outside hours). Great location if you want to attend the CT ren faire in the area.

The staff was very friendly and attentive. We didn't expect anything super fancy because we got a really good rate and check-in was really easy and the staff even showed us to our room and asked if there's anything else he can do for us. Also there were kittens everywhere!

The rooms were dated and could use a little TLC but they did say that they were in the process of remodeling and the next year things would be a lot different and apologized.

The property looked run down but the room & inside buildings looked very clean. The staff was excellent! Couldn’t ask for better: helpful, always quick “service with a smile”. The location was fantastic.

I got back to my room late after a long event nearby. Didn’t get to bed til 12:30. As soon as I tried to sleep I got so congested, I couldn’t sleep. Tried sleeping in the bathtub- same deal. I’ve only ever reacted like this, to with strong odors from carpet cleaners or mold. Ended up sleeping in my car & left very early for my event in the morning. So my reservation to stay would be to anyone with allergies. So many others gave good reviews so I’m assuming it was the carpet odor & not mold that bothered me. Otherwise it would have been a great value.

Clean, location comfortable.

Bathroom was really small and old.

Was very close to the Connecticut Renaissance Faire which was the purpose of the stay.

Rooms were dated and not in the best of shape. I was traveling alone but if I was traveling with someone the bathroom would not have worked. The reason I say that is because the bathroom door would not close all the way it got stuck on the floor about 2 to 3 inches before fully closing.

No coffee.
