"Liked the cottage but our stay was extremely stressful given the above."

3.0

Lovely cottage in a nice location

Cottage wasn`t ready for us to move in, cleaning standards very poor, in need of maintenance and TLC. Repairs not done despite times being arranged to do so.

"THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS"

2.0

Somerset is a beautiful part of the country. There's a pub next-door, though the food is very ordinary. Sometimes the bar garden is rowdy till 12-midnight - especially on Saturday nights.

On our way to the property the hosts demanded our credit card details before they would give us access to the property - even though we had paid in advance IN FULL. Of course, after we left they made a charge against the card for £300. This has now become a legal matter. Booking.com is doing what they can, but the bank are taking action and have advised us to hire solicitors. We were already all pretty angry about the state of the place. The disgusting filthy and ragged "welcome' mat at the front door set the tone. One of the showers was blocked and flooded the bathroom on first use (the owners did send an emergency plumber, and apparently this blockage happened regularly). The other shower head leaked heavily while we were out and soaked the bathroom carpet. The drainpipe for the basin in the downstairs toilet leaked. (We fixed these last two issues ourselves). No shower soap or shampoo was provided and hardly any toilet paper ("well it is self-catering" the owners told us). The upstairs landing light didn't work. The outside patio area was covered with cigarette ends. The kitchen was poorly equipped. We were a party of 6 and we only had enough crookery for that amount (the property supposedly caters for 8), so we had to put on the dishwasher every time we had a meal. 2 small frying pans only and a complicated modern kettle that flooded every time it was used. One of the cooker hobs didn't work. There were numerous issues - too many to list. But to cap it all, there were instructions from the owners all over the house - and even posted to us after at the end of the booking - about what we must and mustn't do. And then we find that they have stolen money from us.....

"Book it! Exquisitely beautiful, clean cosy and very comfortable"

10.0

EVERYTHING! The cottage is BEAUTIFUL. - even in the rain! The hosts were thorough, easy to contact, immediately responsive and very helpful. The kitchen was fully functional - everything worked perfectly and it was exceptionally clean There were plenty of pots pans, utensils , crockery, glasses and more. Lovely coffee machine with pods included. Tea bags and instant hot water. lLttle packs of oil, honey, marmite, ketchup, Lots of tea towels and kitchen roll. All cleaning stuff, anti bac and washing detergents aplenty.. Fantastic cooker and with the kitchen connected to the dining area it was perfect for our family. There was ample space in the lounge with a log burner - logs supplied- and easy to operate TV, and comfy furniture - dead cosy! Again spotless. The beds were so comfortable and bedding smelled clean and fresh. The bathrooms too were spotless with plenty of loo roll and tissues. I NEVER give a 10 but I cannot fault this cottage or hosts.....I will be back!

NOTHING! I cannot think of ONE thing I could negatively comment on.

"Beautiful cottage, pity it wasn't located in a more desirable location."

7.0

It is truly a beautiful cottage

Chilcompton is uninspiring and the local roads are very busy. Our stay was at the end of January and it appeared that the central heating switched off at about 8.30 pm and didn't come back on again until 8 am. There were however logs and a log burning stove. It would have been helpful if therre had been user manuals for the microwave and the old gas cooker range. If we had gone to the property in th Summer we would have really enjoyed the lovely garden and very attractive conservatory.
