The apartment is clean, mostly well decorated the kitchen is well equipped with new kitchen appliances. It is located within a reasonable walking distance to some interesting neighbourhoods, green spaces and shops. There are bus/tram stops nearby, but it is a bit of a walk to the nearest metro station. The price was fair for the accommodation on offer.

The night we arrived we eventually discovered the ‘knack’ for operating the lock for the external gate which allows access to the entrance door. We were struggling for some time before someone from across the street kindly came over and helped us. The name of WiFi network supplied in the access instructions was incorrect, although through trial and error we did find the correct one after a while. There were no instructions for operating the heating. We had to work this out for ourselves by finding the manual online for the A/C unit. It provided more noise than heat, and the meagre warmth it did provide, was only really effective in a small area around the sofa. We did make the mistake of boiling a kettle at the same time as trying to warm the place up a bit but this tripped the main circuit breaker. The bathroom has been designed as a ‘wet room’ and it certainly lived up to this description. The extractor fan did not work, and as a thin doormat was supplied in lieu of a bath mat, the floor remained sopping wet for most of the time. The apartment is located in an area which is pretty much directly under the flight path for planes arriving at LIS. They pass overhead daily from around 5AM to around midnight. There is a street lamp that shines into the bedroom window. A properly fitted blackout blind would have made it easier to sleep. On the third morning we discovered that some ants had decided to make the apartment their home. We were not inundated, but we found them in the kitchen, and also on the towels in the bathroom and a few in the bed. When I reported this to the host, their response was to ask me to send ‘proof’ via WhatsApp. Having done this I then received the following dismissive response “Some insects are normal”, and that was it. There was no offer to remedy it, so we dealt with it ourselves. We had originally booked a two week stay but decided to cut it short.
