"Decent Price and Location, Cleanliness Was a Major Issue"

5.0

Size of the unit (3 bedroom), 1 king and 2 queen beds, and location close to Cary and Raleigh and the Triangle Aquatic Center which is what we were visiting twice a day.

While the space itself is in dire need of TLC, and the complex is old and somewhat run down, I was ok with these cosmetic issues given the reasonable price for the size of the unit. What did bother me was the lack of cleanliness. The dining table was sticky, other surfaces had visible old dirt and spill spots, and the kitchen floor had crumbs. While the bedroom carpets appeared vacuumed, they looked heavily soiled and in need of professional cleaning. In the bathrooms I found multiple strands of hair, both short and long (in the showers, sinks, mirrors, and on the shelves). I found a clump of hair on the bathroom floor and a nail clipping in the sink. When I used toilet paper to pick up the hair clump, it turned visibly dirty with multiple colors of grime, even on the second pass. I ended up cleaning both tubs, sinks, and toilets, tables and other surfaces throughout, as well as washing all the linens and towels for my own peace of mind. When stripping the beds, I found a couple strands of hair on the sheets. A final check under the beds before checkout revealed a dirty pair of socks that did not belong to us. Beyond cleanliness, the unit had a faint musty/stale odor, especially in the bedrooms. I am particularly sensitive to smells; perhaps other guests might not notice or be bothered by it. The kitchen cookware was old, with heavily scratched nonstick surfaces, and the provided sponges were overused. On a positive note, my security deposit was returned promptly.
