"Decent stay, upgrades needed"

6.0

Finding the property was easy. It’s located right in the heart of downtown Memphis, about five minutes from the college, which was very convenient. The neighborhood felt nice, quiet, and welcoming. We also noticed several nearby homes under renovation, likely being converted into Airbnb-style rentals.

When we arrived, the driveway had a steep dip, which made entering and exiting a bit tricky. We had to angle the vehicle carefully to avoid scraping. The exterior of the home has a “close quarters” feel—houses are large but built close together. From inside, you can see into neighboring homes through some windows. The owner did provide curtains, which helped, but fuller or darker curtains would improve privacy. We actually used some extra curtains left in the home to get better coverage. Inside, the home was spacious, secure, and clean—no issues with bugs, which is always a plus. There was a slight damp, musty smell, but that’s somewhat expected in a large home in a humid climate. Not a major concern. As part of our usual routine when staying in hotels or Airbnbs, I wiped down high-touch areas. During that process, I noticed some stains on the couch. We also found that some of the provided linens had stains, so we made a quick Walmart run to grab our own sheets, plasticware, and a few air fresheners to make the space more comfortable. The biggest downsides of the stay were the beds and the showers. The beds were very low and not very comfortable, which made it difficult to get a good night’s rest. On top of that, the shower pressure was extremely low in all bathrooms. The home has a great location and good potential, but with a few upgrades—especially to bedding, linens, and water pressure—it could be a much better experience.
