A bit far from city center

I loved everything about my stay. I was expecting to take a taxi from the airport to the apartment and was stunned to be greeted at the airport by my hosts who warmly welcomed me with a beautiful lei. Since the elevator at the apartment was temporarily not working, they had worried about how it might be for me to arrive and have to navigate the flights of stairs with my luggage. So, in my opinion, they went above and beyond by greeting me, driving me to the apartment, carrying my bag up 6 flights of stairs, and welcoming me into my apartment. The view out to the ocean was beautiful, both during the day and at night, the birds singing off of the patio was joyful, a grocery store was just next door, and if you don't mind walking, downtown and the ferry dock are doable. The walk, however, if it's not on a Sunday is traffic-filled, noisy, and dirty.

I haven't been a smoker for years so a lingering smell of cigarettes did bother me somewhat but with windows open and a breeze moving through, it didn't ruin my stay. Not even close. When I booked the place, I didn't look to see if smoking was allowed. My suggestion to the hosts is to only allow guests to smoke on the patio. Everything else was wonderful.

The location was very good with the Carrefour right next door.

The property is on a hillside and employs a funicular instead of an elevator to reach the upper floors. Nice concept when it works. Unfortunately, it didn’t work upon arrival and we had to carry our luggage up six flights of stairs. The funicular didn’t work about a third of the time thereafter. Also, the kitchen could use a few more supplies (e.g. paper towels and some napkins).
