Hanare no yado Kamigakure

The western style beds are very comfortable. Both the breakfast and dinner menu were excellent. They vary the menu everyday as we stayed there for 3 nights. Very close to the Takachiho shrine.

No public onsen.

It’s beautifully decorated and we love both the outdoor and indoor onsens!! The food is fantastic as well!! Service staff spoke some English and all very professional and helpful. I love the location as well. Very central and so close to everything!

Wish they could give a half portion option (not expecting price reduction) so that I do not need to overeat!!

Food was great, location was easy to find.

The beautiful decor, amenities, stylish Yukata, and thoughtful touches all throughout the room. Fantastic hospitality and amazing food! It was clear the property owner and chef had a clear point of view even down to the quality of paper napkins provided and food portions that were not too overwhelming. The excellence shines through everything provided. The room is too comfortable—we only wished we had more time to enjoy it.

Lack of a hot spring, although they say the water of their sento / bath water is taken from a special waterfall and this made up for it. The porch is lovely but we couldn’t really enjoy it as there was a large spider (common in this part of Japan).

read in previous reviews that the hotel staff could walk guests to the evening show at 8pm. when we asked them if they could do so, they said no. the hotel is surrounded by funeral parlours and saw empty houses so it would have been nice if they offered to walk us as there are no street lamps. we eventually did not go for the show even tho we bought the tickets . we also saw a big cockroach in the bathroom.

The spacious and comfortable rooms are beautifully designed like cottages surrounded by trees and plants. Staff are very pleasant, warm and hospitable. Kaiseki meals served for dinner and breakfast are simply sumptuous and delicious. Highly recommend this ryokan for driving travellers.

Slightly located away from station and main town, it's more convenient for those with cars.
