USThe most pure ryokan experience I’ve had in Japan. The property feels authentically old, while also being cozy and comfortable. The staff were wonderful and the food was incredible. A huge step above anything else I’ve experienced at a ryokan. The food alone is worth the price. The rooms are just amazing though and feel so pure. Most ryokans seemed to try and reinvent themselves at some point to try and modernize while also sticking to traditional values. This place is traditional to its core and I mean that in the best way.
Lose the bean bag pillows. I guess they add to the authentic vibe but no one under 65 likes them, even among Japanese. Even then it must just be a nostalgic thing for them.
