Great place to stay in Sandakan

A style of living cold Wales cannot offer. A feast for the eyes / or eye opener at every turn. Lovely food at the cafes along the walkways But don’t expect Welsh hotel facilities and be prepared to accept this jewel on its own terms. If you want 5 star hotels this is not for you. It has its own beauty and plenty of wildlife around in the sea if you choose to look. This village is a home and it’s a privilege to stay there.

Everything goes into the sea to be washed out on the tide from this stilt village - these days the sea struggles to cope with our excess of non degrade-able plastics and numbers.

I like the people (super nice) and the room (clean and comfortable) but as I mentioned below. Unfortunately, The lack of sanitation infrastructure goes against my beliefs and my concern for the environment. The residents and the government should take a serious look at this problem. I would not stay here until they solve it.

In Sim Sim Village, human waste from toilets goes directly into the sea because there is no proper sewage system. The lack of sanitation infrastructure causes serious pollution of the coastal waters, creating bad smells and health risks for the people living nearby. It can affect the health and well-being of its residents & tourists. Unfortunately, this goes against my beliefs and my concern for the environment. The residents and the government should take a serious look at this problem. I would not stay here until they solve it.

Great location. A unique experience staying in a homestay on stilts above the water. Great value for budget accommodation. Very clean with adequate kitchen facilities, including a refrigerator. Good sized room.

No complaints.

Muy limpio y ordenado, no está super equipado (condimentos, detergente,etc) pero está muy bien pra un par de días. El personal es fantástico
