GBQuirky place and interesting for a short stay
Some might not like the dated furnishing but we felt added to charm. Could make pub area downstairs usable which would be a big added bonus

GBSpacious rooms, comfy sofas and beds.
Loud music until 1am… we were expecting some noise from the pub but not to that degree. Not great for kids of if you have to be up early. The yellow bedroom was nicely decorated but the others were not great.

GBThe beds were comfortable and linem clean. Plenty of towels.
There is a high possibility the business operating this accommodation (Second Nest) is a scam company, or at best, operating with extreme unprofessionalism. There are only a small number of reviews (last one August 2024 which is 9 months ago) which are all pretty positive, so something has happened since then, or maybe they get removed, or noone ever stays there?! When we got to the accommodation, you enter via a door directly from the pub. The pub staff were helpful but claimed not to have the PIN to enter, which was not provided by booking.com. Turns out the company - second nest - expect you to check in online using their own platform. Not immediately a red flag but there were various issues which in hindsight don't add up. Given we have since had our card charged with £300, despite previously receiving an email confirming the deposit had been returned, is leaving us wondering if it was all a ploy to take our debit card details outside of booking.com in order to do this. And maybe they usually get away with it for larger groups of hens and stags who possibly do make a bit of a mess, so they just try their luck. Anyway, when we queried it, since no explanation was given, it was explained that it was due to needing to repair scratches on the sofa made by our dog! Who had explicit permission to stay, of course, (the property is advertised as pet friendly, but we still checked). As decent, house proud people we treat properties as though they are our own, and would never dream of allowing such damage to a sofa! We knew staying directly above a pub would be noisy and we're not precious, once we discovered this we decided to adopt a similar attitude to the previous reviewer who said hearing all the banter was funny, or words to that effect. The noise stopped at 1.30am ish when the live DJ finished, but the bigger issue is what goes on in and immediately outside the pub.

GBSecond Nest was a fun place to stay but if you are with a young family the ‘banter’ from the pub can be heard in the flat. We have teenagers so they thought it was very amusing. The flat is perfectly located for enjoying all the quirky lanes in the old town and it was helpful talking to some of the pub staff about parking tips. John was super helpful and very welcoming. We enjoyed a fun bingo night. Once the pub closed it was quiet-even the seagulls kept the noise down. Highly recommend a meal on the terrace at the Buoy and Oyster-the Bloody Mary is something else!
There is a lot of building work in the area and the work started early. Don’t let it put you off as it’s the perfect reason to get up and explore!
