"Fantastic quiet chalet plus Accessible needs."

9.0

Lovely small chalet with a good ramp to the entrance which allowed for an 18" seat wheelchair to enter the living room area without problems but that is where the wheelchair use ends.. Very well thought through decoration and entertainment (TV, Fire stick and a Wii) within the chalet for those who are staying on site mainly. Comfortable seating for 3/4 people, well done kitchen area along with all the kitchen equipment to self cater. Both bedrooms have their own TVs. The site is very quiet and peaceful, perfect for anyone wanting to come back to chill in front of the TV or relax in the garden of an evening. The garden has very nice rattan seating and a table with lovely gentle lighting that on a good sunny day stays on a good 6 hours making an already lovely area feel like an extra special space. Very dog friendly. Generally a brilliant place to relax. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here.

Let me start by saying this isn't a moan or problem for many but a truthful assessment on the accessibility. Given my carer found the chalet advertised on an accessibility site so booked as it stated wheelchair friendly, I was expecting to be able to have use of a bedroom at very least, although sleeping on the sofa really isn't a problem and can be turned into a bed if needed. I found the sofa comfortable enough as was. With no access to the bathroom, a commode can be hired. Hiring the right equipment isn't a problem, there are a number of mobility places around the area but the equipment for a non weight bearing wheelchair user does make a small chalet very tight for movement, more than 3 people would make space awkward. So the term wheelchair friendly is correct to a point, but being in the wheelchair full time does mean you are sleeping in the living room and need to hire a commode for the break as the wheelchair access stops as you enter the living room. To get to the bedrooms/ bathroom you have to manoeuvre down the small galley kitchen. It's not a long walk (estimated 10-12 steps) where you can use the kitchen side to assist you, but to get into the double bedroom at the back a few independent steps would be needed. The bathroom is small but a carer could be present if needed, the toilet isn't as low as many others, plus with the space being small there are ways of getting up quite easily. It's perfect for 2/3 people with the equipment but could become cramped with 3+ people. It's just a question of knowing your own needs and being prepared.
