"An OK stay but would not stay here again if I come back to koh rong"

6.0

Large lockers and I liked that locks and keys were provided so I didn’t have to use my own I booked an island tour and bus to Phnom Penh with the owner. Both were great! The hostel is walking distance to nestival. I would say 5 mins down to get to the beach and another 4 minutes along the beach to get to nest beach club. The walk back after nestival was very intimidating the first night as I didn’t know the area and I’m a female solo traveler. My sweet friends walked me to my hostel at 2am and I was surprised to see that there were some LED lights on the path leading to the hostel. There were still some dark patches where phone lights were needed but the path was lit up for the most part. After they walked me that first night I walked alone the rest of the 3 nights after sunset from the main part of the island to the hostel which was about a 20-25 min walk. I felt like a local lol! But I never felt unsafe which is always important.

The road from the main road down to the hostel was really bad. I thought my tuktuk was going to tip over bc of how rocky it was. The road from the hostel to the beach was a dirt road, with a sketchy bridge and some palms on the floor. When I arrived, the owner wasn’t welcoming at all nor was he expecting me. He asked where I booked and that’s how he found me. This is probably the first hostel where my passport wasn’t checked and I was brought in to a dorm where I was told to pick whatever bed. If it rains, expect the WiFi and AC to go out. If you have cell data, it will be useless as there is no cell reception in the area to begin with. The walls of the hostel say pad thai, fried noodle, lok lak, etc and when I inquired if they had food, the group of workers laying on the hammocks and benches started laughing. The owner said no food even tho it was 2pm and he made me feel like I had inconvenienced him. I was confused bc why have a menu on your wall if you don’t offer it? The showers are outside so expect to find some surprises upon entering. There was warm water which was great but I always switched it off bc of how sweaty I was. I saw a used shampoo bottle in one of the showers and killed a big beetle in another and the shampoo bottle was still there 3 days later and the beetle was now surrounded by tiny ants which meant the showers were never cleaned. The reception and bar area were always empty. Seemed like no one was working at any point of the day. When I would pass by to leave for the day, all the workers would be lounging on the hammocks. I was the only foreigner during my 4 night stay. It was fine bc I would walk to meet my friends and join their hostel activities. One night, I heard the door open at night so I thought it was a potential friend. I opened my curtain to say hi and it was the owner and a workers going into another bunk bed across from me to sleep. Really awkward situation all around.

"Definitely recommend this hostel!"

8.0

Pablo, the owner was amazing, went out of his way to make our stay great, and got involved with his guests at nestival and at the hostel. The beds were clean and spacious, with big lockers available. Great location away from the noise but only a 3 minute walk to the beach! Basic shower block but warm powerful water! He had everything you needed, would definitely recommend to anyone!

Loved everything

"Support small and local business!!!"

Location is very good, you can access the hostel from the main beach, it’s 15 mins walk. The bed was big and very comfortable, the host let you use the kitchen facilities which is a big plus.

The road leading to the hostel was bad but I guess it’s just part of the experience

Comfy beds, really friendly staff, good wifi & a/c, about 3 min walk to the beach!!

Outdoor bathroom and no nets in dorm - I got so many sand fly and mosquito bites. Bring repellent!!
