Halla guest house

I highly recommend this hostel. It is within walking or biking distance of many interesting sites and restaurants. Busses to all parts of the island stop close to the hostel entrance. The hostel allows guests free use of a large kitchen, dining room, and lounge. This clean hostel is very nicely decorated and the owner makes everyone feel as if they were guests of her home.

The few positive points were that it was in a great neighborhood, the airport was close and there were many shops and restaurants nearby, we had free (small) towels, toothbrushes, and bottles of water. It was really cheap which was great and we didn’t have to do anything for the check out which allowed us to leave really early. Overall, there were a lot of problems with the place and I would not recommend staying here to most people.

Our stay was… interesting We stayed there from the 5th to the 10th of April but from the beginning we had issues. First of all the name of the hostel was not written on the front of the building/the door, we had to go in and ask another hostel in the same building to figure out if it was the right place. The name on the building is Lyndon Guest house so that’s what you should be looking for in the building to find Halla Guest House. We then checked in, and were surprised to find that there were no sheets on the bed, just a bed cover (which btw did not cover the whole mattress) and a duvet (again without anything to protect it). Nothing seemed clean or to have been cleaned before our arrival; we found dirt, what seemed to be eggshells, parts of a sim card, hair that wasn’t ours and more (see pictures) We even came home one day to one of our bed being “made” for a new person (which was a mistake because we were staying a few days more, and the supposedly new bed covers and duvets where the exact same as the one that we had used just the night before (we think that nothing had been cleaned for the supposedly next customer) The bathroom was also not the cleanest, with big clumps of hair that took 2 days to be taken out. Noise was also a bit of an issue as the walls were pretty thin and people would speak out loud in the common areas even after midnight. We were also not very lucky with our roommates as one of them was very loud and did not care for others much. This was obviously not the hostels fault, however putting up rules in the rooms telling people to take their phone calls outside, use headphones and ask people to turn off the lights or open the window (which should be normal things to do but apparently aren’t for everyone) would have helped greatly.
