Covenanters Cottage , Balmaclellan

Absolutely beautiful and well equipped cottage, everything you could need and more was available. Fiona and Alan are fantastic hosts, extremely welcoming, helpful and excellent communication from booking to departure (plus some delicious home baking to welcome you upon arrival), they have honestly thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. As the cottage is on one level and easily accessible from the car, it’s perfect for younger children and those with limited or restricted mobility. The cottage is within beautiful, well kept gardens which you are invited to explore and spot local wildlife (red squirrels, deer, rabbits, red kites and more) plus spectacular views. The addition of games (table tennis, darts etc) and gym equipment within the barn was a welcome touch too and a great variety of options to keep both children and adults entertained.

The only negative was having to leave and return home!

We had a fantastic Christmas, kids absolutely loved it. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and more. We will definitely return again.

Hosts were very approachable. A welcome of a homemade lemon drizzle cake on the kitchen table was a nice touch! The cottage was beautiful with 3 ample sized double bedrooms and good sized kitchen and living room. My mother who is 86 enjoyed sitting out the front lawn reading Agatha Christie with a leisurely cup of coffee and also watch the ponies in the paddock. Alan was very friendly and helpful with places to visit and to eat. If you are looking for somewhere quiet to stay, then this is the place! An added bonus is a games room, (barn) across from the cottage that had table tennis, tv, work out machines. We will definitely be back and would thoroughly recommend staying at Covenanters Cottage. Dumfries and Galloway has some stunning countryside, walks and wildlife to explore.

Tiny wee thing... a pint of milk in the fridge upon arrival for a cup of tea/coffee. The local shops were closed when we arrived, but we did get homemade lemon drizzle cake! :)

Clear, quick communication from Alan and Fiona about our stay. Always felt like we knew what was happening. Lovely accommodation with everything we needed. Accessible for an older relative. Nice views and the barn with table tennis was a great addition for the younger members of the family.

Nothing specifically about the property. The only comment I would have is the EV Charging isn’t on site and that wasn’t completely clear from the listing - it is in the nearby village - a 10 minute walk away with a 7kw 2 bay charger. That didn’t detract from the break though - it was a lovely stay that the whole family enjoyed thoroughly!
