"A very neat camp"

8.0

A very well-constructed camp, with the tents, especially, looking very neat. I especially liked the carpeted 'courtyard' outside the back door. Although I didn't use it, it could be a lovely place to rest/sleep outdoors, either during the day or the night. There are numerous activities on offer, and you will be transported to the start of these if they are located outside the camp. The staff are friendly, and the communication with the camp before arrival is good. The choice of foods is limited, but what is on offer is well-prepared and tasty. Vegans and vegetarians will have little or no choice.

Both my wife and I found the bed uncomfortable - not necessarily a universal issue. The areas within and immediately around the camp are kept free of litter: thanks to the camp staff. Unfortunately, the greater Al Wasil and Wahiba Sands area has become heavily trashed, especially with plastic waste. The areas around the car parks just outside the Sands are disgusting. Indeed, there seems to be so much trash that the garbage collectors are not able to cope with the problem (and a lot of trash is blowing out of the tips or carelessly dropped when the tips are emptied). The local communities are going to have to act on this if they don't want to lose business. There needs to be much greater awareness of this problem. There needs to be a creative initiative by the walis and businessmen of the area to bring the problem to the attention of locals and visitors alike.
