Toucan Hill Lodge

Close walking distance to the beach, nice cabins, owner ( David ) was great.

We went here for peace, the jungle, birds, the ocean. Oh MAN did it deliver. Lovely high perched cabins right in the trees. The cabins are basically brand new, the lovely smell of wood still lingers. Sealed tight as a drum, you can lie in bed and be a part of the jungle with the screened windows wide open, a part of nature. I’ve never been woken by howler monkeys at 6am and it’s an experience I will never forget. The beach is right down the road. David is so helpful and friendly. He even made a grocery run for us so we could luxuriate over breakfasts after morning birding! Cabs are available at a phone call or just going up and down the road. The rough roads lead to even more amazing jungle or small beach community experiences. Chocolate farms, ex-Pat bars, superb restaurants, starfish loaded beaches, tropical birds beyond your wildest dreams. The warmest, kindest locals. I didn’t want to leave this enchanted world.

We had an amazing stay at Toucan Hill. David and Mandy are the most friendly and helpful hosts you could hope to meet. The lodges are brand new and very well equipped - all the little things that many other places miss are taken care of here (sharp knifes, cooking utensils, great towels, hot water, etc). The lodges are spacious and beds very comfy. The lodges are only a minute from bluff beach and there are several beach bars and restaurants here. There was always taxis and colectivos (small buses) available to take you into town (we even walked a couple of times) We spotted many birds, monkeys and iguanas and saw a load of Sloths during our time here. We loved falling asleep to the sounds of the sea and howler monkeys in the jungle

We booked the lodge at very last moment on our own risk as it’s didn’t have any reviews and marked as new property on booking.com We were planning to spend 1 night there and ended up to stay for 2. Our fears were false Cabins were new, everything nessesary were on a site, uncluding flash light. Owner living on the site and you can easily contact him if you need. On a second night was storm and power was off. Which means you can’t use both , water and electricity. We got extra water from the owner again and were using flash light. Owner was in processing waiting for his generator arrived as the lodge is new so ,I believe, it’s should not be an issue in the future with the generator. If you like the jungle it’s a perfect place. Location is great, a lot of wildlife such as sloth, monkeys, sea turtles near on a beach.

The only thing we don’t like its smell of bad water as the water quality in jungle is not good but for the food /drink needs we were using drinkable water from the water dispenser which owner provides. So if you don’t want your clothes stinking don’t wash them there.
