"De kamer viel een beetje tegen, best klein, maar ontbijt was prima en personeel vriendelijk."

7.0

Eigen parkeergelegenheid achter het hotel. Bij het ontbijt kon je je keuze opgeven, of je b.v. een English breakfast wilde, of iets anders.

Het bed in kamer 3 kon beter. De matras mag vernieuwd worden.

The welcome from Nadine was very warm and genuine, and I felt at ease to let her know anything I needed. The room was comfortable, clean and tidy with enough period character for me as an expatriate Welshman to feel at home. The double bed was in period keeping with building, large, clean and comfortable. TV facilities were fine and easy to access from lying in bed. Personally I found the ensuite to be of hotel standard: warm-coloured marble patterned tiling all in good order and a fair-pressured shower that gave up to pleasantly hot water without a risk of scalding; I like my hot water showers and I was satisfied with this one. The breakfast was freshly cooked to a good standard - they specify "eggs your way" on the breakfast menu, so don't be afraid to say. As a veggie I enjoyed the local inclusion of Glamorgan sausages - and the tomato was fresh, not canned (I can't abide the latter). Perhaps there could have been some more variety in the bread available for toast, but the white bread was a good thickness for toast, the toast was spot-on, and there were pats of butter for it rather than bland tasteless margarine. I couldn't find any marmalade but the jam on offer was good quality. You can really stuff yourself on the breakfast - apart from the cooked there are rolls, local Welsh flavoured yoghurts (a good brand), fresh fruit and your regular cereal range if you want it while your big breakfast is being cooked. Apple and orange juice are freely available. Tea and coffee are freshly prepared - I should have asked for decaff and forgot, but I had a busy day ahead so "caff" was welcome and am sure decaff would be no problem. Tea and coffee are served in attractive proper china pots, as is the accompanying milk. Car parking is at the rear of the property and private. I had a lot of heavy stuff to lug into my room and from the car park to my room ("4") everything is flat.

I missed being able to access radio stations on the TV menu, and I did search for a bit. If that was my bad, apologies. Nothing to do with the family business, but some enormous contemporary cars need careful and considerate parking, and that sometimes wasn't in evidence. But I was able to park "horizontally" in relation to the building entrance and that seemed to cause no problems. I think it's on drivers of these current pesky tanks of the road to think for a change of others.
