Karoo Mountain River House

The house was as shown on the photos. Loved the interior and all the small details.

We had such a wonderful stay at this beautiful home! The view was absolutely incredible, and the house was perfectly equipped with everything we needed. What truly made it special was the exceptional host next door—always ready to help, whether it was lighting a fire or bringing warm water bottles for our beds. The peaceful river right in front of the house was perfect for kayaking and enjoying a picnic on the lawn. A truly memorable and relaxing getaway for our whole family.

Really nice and quiet. Beautiful place and very comfortable with most of the things you require being there. Staff were very helpful and super friendly.

The braai is quite small and for the price of the place you would expect to have braai wood supplied. Be prepared of the fact that the house is off-grid and if you have a day of no sunshine (rain) chances are good you going to run out of electricity

The house and location is amazing! Very well designed and very secluded. What made it truly amazing was the presence of Fernandez, who helps with everything and is also great with kids. He spent countless hours fishing with our 6yr old and really made our stay at River House unforgettable!

Wonderful location, but the photos give the impression that you are quite alone. In fact, there is a house right next to you and you look out on several across the river. It has all the amenities that you may require even a gas and traditional braai, gas oven and stove and an array of cutlery, crockery, baking trays, etc to ensure that you can prepare whatever you wanted.

Although there is a permanent housekeeper, the house was not that clean. The housekeeper is a delight though and aims to please. Also try and plan to be out for quite some time when the housekeeper does come in (you can dictate when) as we were typically out for more than 2 hours but then the housekeeper would still be very much busy on our return. Not an issue usauuly, but if you want to have that karoo feeling, it's not ideal. The estate is off grid, so if you do not have sufficient sunshine (as we did), the power does go off and you are without power. You can luckily still make food (all gas or wood braai) and shower/bath due to a gas geyser. The claim that one is 'surrounded by wildlife' is a bit of an overreach, although there are birds aplenty, the game is very scarce.
