Rumah Pagar Merah Homestay

My stay at this homestay was truly one of the most human and heartwarming experiences I’ve ever had while traveling. From the very first contact on WhatsApp with the lovely Ited, everything was perfect. She organized every single detail of my stay with care and attention — even arranged a motorbike for me to use throughout my trip. Always kind, responsive, and ready to help with anything, even from afar. I was personally welcomed by her sister, Arie, and I can honestly say she became my “Indonesian grandmother.” 💛 I’ve never met someone so generous, sensitive, and caring. She treated me with the same warmth and affection a grandmother would show her grandson. I have several food restrictions, and she made sure to take care of every single detail of my meals. One moment I’ll never forget: one morning I had to leave for a tour at 3 a.m., and I told her I would just grab my breakfast from the fridge. To my surprise, she woke up at 2 a.m. just to prepare my breakfast fresh — without charging me anything extra. That kind of kindness is rare and truly moved me. The room was excellent: the air conditioning worked perfectly, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was great and spotless, and everything was kept clean and organized. The homestay also has a fantastic location, very close to the central station, which makes getting around the city extremely convenient. Another detail that shows Arie’s generosity: even after my paid motorbike rental time had expired, she let me use it for a few extra hours, just so I could go to the gym at night — again, without asking for anything in return. She also never minded that I came back late every night, always greeting me with a smile, and never complained when I ordered food through delivery apps multiple times. There was one day when it rained heavily, and I decided to stay at the homestay working. That day turned into one of the most special memories of my trip.

Les propriétaires sont très charmants et prévenants. Les repas proposés sont excellents. La chambre est sommaire mais très confortable. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour.

The room was basic but comfortable. Good wifi and AC. The water in the shower was cool but this was not an issue as the weather was hot in Jogja. Complimentary water was provided. Indonesian meal options available for breakfast, lunch and dinner (at an additional cost). Tour options and a laundry service were also available. The staff were friendly. The location was a 10 min walk away from Jl Malioboro and also from the train station.

The hand basin was outside and not inside my room. This made shaving more difficult as there was no mirror outside at the hand basin

Quiet location down a little alley, no road noise. Could hear the mosque call to prayer in the morning and roosters but that is the case everywhere in Jogja. Nice green leafy courtyard. We were given new mineral water every day. Wifi was good. Host helped us arrange drivers. Bedding and towels were nice and clean. 10-15 minute walk to Malioboro.

The property was a little bit tired and could do with a refresh but for the price it was okay.

Handy location.

Two ways to improve at accommodation: sinks in rooms instead of outdoors; boiled water facilities made available to guests to make tea/coffee as staff not always available.

Accueil très chaleureux et possibilité de pouvoir avoir le petit déjeuner et le diner qui a été très appréciable. L'endroit est très paisible.
