"Lovely"

8.0

Comfortable and clean, lovely breakfast and a real sneakpeak of how local families live.

There was nothing to dislike. I’m not sure if there was confusion with language barrier but I was quoted very high costs for the transport arranged by the homestay (almost 4 x the price of local bus and 2 x price of private bus). I ended up paying considerably less by arranging transport through other locals I met in town.

"Basic room, sufficient for my 1 night stay."

5.0

It was a basic simple room, sufficient for my 1 night stay. Locating the property was slightly difficult as there was no signage and i had to ask around to find it. You need to walk through an alley and down a short flight of stairs. Breakfast was provided. There are places to eat nearby up the road (5min walk).

Difficulty locating the property.

"A welcoming homestay close to the tourist part of Bajawa."

8.0

Convenient location. Amy worked very hard to keep it clean and provide food.

It is basic accommodation. We asked for hot water each morning to have a bucket wash.

Petit déjeuner ok

I wouldn’t recommand Marselino’s Homestay to anybody. We found 2 cockroaches in the room, there wasn’t any towels or even a hand soap. It was super noisy, with uncomfortable and smelly beds. One of the dog is very aggressive. The kids were hitting puppies in front of us, so Its not surprising… Marselino wasn’t on site and wasn’t of any help over the phone! He apparently couldn’t help us book a hiking tour on Mount inerie, didn’t even reply while we were trying to organise transportation to ruteng… We wanted to rent a scooter but the homestay only offers a very old and rusted scooter one so you better go someplace else…

"Don’t recommend if other options are still available"

5.0

The pancakes and juice for breakfast were very nice. The lady who helps run the guesthouse is very nice.

- I was going to say one of the only positives was that the hosts were nice. But then we found out we were ripped off by Marselino. The two of us paid 150 rupiah each for a shared taxi that Marselino arranged for us to Riung. When we arrived at our next guest house, our host told us that the shared taxi should only have been 100 per person and we were lied to so that Marselino could take the extra profit. We asked other guests in Riung who confirmed they only paid 100 for their transfer. Annoying that the Marselino guesthouse couldn’t be honest especially after a disappointing stay. - The sheets, pillowcases and pillows really need replacing. The pillows in particular are gross with mould seeping through from them onto the cases. They tried to hide it under multiple pillow cases but the mould still came through. It’s really unhealthy for people to be sleeping on them and we had to cover them with our own sleeping bag liner so that we didn’t directly touch them. - There were ants in the bed. - Towels also very stained. - The room is very noisy. There is no coverings on the vents/holes in the wall and there are big gaps between the ceiling and wall so it’s very loud in the evening with the family, children crying, dogs barking, cockerels, etc. - worst shower in 6 months of travelling in Asia. There was barely a trickle of water enough to wash the soap off yourself. - The guesthouse is in a strange location and can be difficult to find. You enter from the back down a dark and slippery path if you arrive in the evening.
