The Secret Garden Hideaway

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this guest house. I originally booked for one night while in the process of moving house, and upon arrival I informed the host that I would like to stay a second night as well. Everything seemed fine at the time. The next morning, however, I was abruptly told to leave because another booking had come through. No proper effort was made to accommodate me, despite me already discussing extending my stay. Being forced to pack up and leave while in the middle of a stressful move was incredibly upsetting and unprofessional. I understand bookings happen, but the way this situation was handled showed absolutely no consideration, communication, or basic hospitality. Guests should not be made to feel disposable the moment another booking appears. I would not recommend staying here if you expect reliability, professionalism, or decent customer service.

I think the name aptly describes the venue. And literally 2 streets off from downtown. I appreciated Christine’s opening up for a late arrival!

Scam

The house is right next to the road, extremely noisy at night impossible to sleep. The property advertises a bath tub as included, but after payment they inform you that using it costs an extra 500 South African Rands and takes almost 3 hours to heat. The host does not reply to messages, and we were left waiting outside the property until someone eventually opened the door. We were promised 250 South African Rands as compensation, but they paid us in 20c, 50c and 1 Rand coins, which felt humiliating and classist. When guests complain, the hosts respond with false statements, knowing there is no right of reply. I do not recommend this place.
