We checked in on 13 April for a one-night stay at White Surfing Beach Resort, Habaraduwa, and unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst experiences we’ve had. To begin with, there was no water supply in the property. We were later told that water cuts happen every other day, but this was never communicated to us at the time of check-in. Only a few bottles of water were provided in the washroom, which was clearly insufficient. The condition of the room was unacceptable. The bed sheets were dirty and stained, and there were ants and insects on the bed. To make matters worse, the non-AC room didn’t even have a fan, making the stay extremely uncomfortable. The service was equally disappointing. A foreign lady at reception hurriedly collected our payment and struggled to communicate clearly in English. When we raised the water issue, a staff member named Malshan informed us it would be resolved by around 2 PM. Understanding that such issues can sometimes be beyond control, we decided to wait and left our bags in the room while we went out. However, when we returned around 2:30 PM, there was still no water, and that’s when we also noticed the insect problem on the bed. At that point, we had no choice but to leave immediately. Since we had not used any facilities or stayed in the room, we requested a refund. The staff refused to return the full amount. After some discussion, Malshan refunded only LKR 2,000 out of the total LKR 4,950 and assured us that the remaining balance would be transferred later. We also contacted Ishan, who handled our booking through Booking.com, and he promised the issue would be resolved. However, to date, we have not received the remaining amount or any further response. Overall, this was a highly disappointing and unprofessional experience. We would not recommend this place to anyone.
