Rose Bank Cottage Coniston

Very nice cottage, clean and well equipped with TV, some DVDs, iron, ironing board, dishwasher, washing machine etc. It’s also a short walk to a couple of pubs and shops.

As mentioned in the booking information, the access road is narrow and steep. We have an estate car and still managed to get access Ok and park in front of the cottage. This did require my wife to walk in front on the car though and check the clearances around the corners!

Lovely location just far enough away from the hussle through the town and close enough to ba 5 minute walk to the town centre. Great views over the countryside

The road up to the cottage was very narrow and steep. Parking wasn't very good. Both bathrooms were very small, and unable to sit on the toilet properly in the front bathroom. Your head was next to the toilet when you had a bath. Pictures need updating

The garden is very steep and not secure for dogs. When assistance was required, the out of hours callout who claimed to be the owner of Coppermines was nothing short of rude. Filled dog poo bags left in bottom of dustbin from the previous visitors. Property, although very quaint and good facilities could do with some TLC to windows and a good carpet clean. Main double bed is 2 singles pushed together. Very uncomfortable. The smaller double is the better option.

What a view! The cottage itself had everything the same as your own house would, kitchen was fully equiped, TV, radio/cd/cassette player as well. Both bedrooms had an ensuite, one with a shower and one with a bath and shower. Everything was pristine and clean with comfy beds, a fabulous cottage with a parking space right out the front. The best part though were the views! WOW!! Just stunning! You look out across Coniston Lake and the village and it is absolutely beautiful! Worth the stay just for that! It's so close to the village and the lake, there are several pubs to eat in, some lovely cafés and shops as well. The village is gorgeous with the views all around. The lake has boat trips, kayaking, paddle boarding etc and you're not far from the Old Man if you like climbing 2000ft hills! Ruskin house at Brantford is a must visit, it's about a 10 minute drive and gives you views from the other side of the lake. Ruskin was an incredibly talented man and learning about him was fascinating, there is a garden trail and some of his geology collection on show as well as art, books and music. I'd also recommend taking the boat tour to learn about Donald Campbell and Bluebird. I'd highly recommend this as a place to stay, it's fabulous. We can't wait to go back.

The slight downside is it's up a very steep hill so if you're mobility impaired, please consider staying somewhere lower down unless you are using you're car every day. The hill is a real struggle to climb up when walking unless you're fully able bodied. I didn't realise until after I'd booked that it is situated up this mega steep hill as it doesn't state that in the info. There are a few different ways to walk to the cottage though, we eventually found an easier slightly flatter route than the one we first came in on. As I said though, if you're ok with that then you can't get better situated than this cottage.
