"Misadventure in a "Luxury Apartment" in Birmingham"

3.0

There were lots of clean towels and really some very nice scented candles.

The flat was lacking in a few necessities such as a kettle, table, chairs and basic cleanliness. There was European hair on the bed and I am of an African persuasion. The shower was dirty, the hand basin was dirty and, when I finally cleaned the shower enough to chance a shower, the shower tray filled up with water, which threatened to spill over onto the floor. The real challenge occurred when I came back later in the evening to enter the flat. There were large black bags of rubbish blocking the gate and the stairs up to the door was a fire escape which had no lighting. When I finally got to the door, the light came on....on the inside of the door thus being of no help at all. To the right of the staircase was a bit of damaged dangerously rotted roof which had the only door mat on it which was discarded in a pool of moss-filled dirty rainwater. The skirting was dirty and the microwave oven was of the type to be fitted into a unit but was left sitting on the countertop You could see that the 'Luxury' flat was recently decorated...by a child. The quality of workmanship beggered belief and it was very funny that it was described as a Luxury apartment. The windows were covered with black bin liners and the bedroom door didn't close. Interestingly, there was a massage table under the bed and my son remarked: "This explains everything". He then went back to his student dorm and supplied us with clean bed linen which was greatly appreciated. Now let's talk about the back gate to the car park. This was blocked by a large commercial bin with large refuge sacks spilling over the footpath and I saw a rat running away from the bin as I approached the gate.
